What is the allowed syntax for +1s?
What kind of syntax is allowed for proper indexing of your +1? For example, can you +1 multiple people at once? Can you +2 something? Can you +1 a hashtag? And, while I know it goes against the grain of positivity, what about -1s? You know they're gonna happen.

Inappropriate?Grrreat questions, Buster.
1. +1's we count:
Currently we count "+1", "1+", "plus 1", and "plus one" (which we pronounce "plusóne" in honor of our Italian friends), and most any variant of white-spacing.
The other requirement is that, at the moment, there must be a recipient @mentioned in the tweet for us to award gratitude to. So tweets like, say, "1 + 1 = 2" will be detected, but not counted. Make sense?
2. +1 to multiple people at once.
We'll currently detect and award the +1 to the first recipient if a tweet has multiple people mentioned. The other thing we try to be fairly smart about is getting the recipient correct in the case of retweets.
Is multiple +1 recipients per tweet something you have a need for?
3. There can be only +1.
Nope, no +2, no +10 :) we consider +1 the 1x1 lego building block of goodness, so we strictly deal in atomic units, at this point.
4. The dreaded -1.
Not at the moment. As you know, we're all about positivity, and we like the idea of monotonically increasing positivity. We've toyed with offering the option to buy -1's, so that you have the option to make mean tweets count... but it'll cost you. :)

I like those answers! I haven't yet come across a need to +1 multiple people at the same time, but I'll keep using it and find out. Maybe it's better to keep gratitude personal. I'm all okay with no +2s or -1s... though the idea of selling -1s is pretty awesome. At 43things.com we strongly considered a "pro" account that got you 44 things on your list. -
Inappropriate? After testing this out for another week, I think it would be great to be able to +1 multiple people at once (for example, when I go to someone's house for a party, I want to thank both hosts), and it would also be great to be able to +1 a hash tag... if only for entertainment's sake. Lots of businesses aren't on Twitter yet, even though they may search for their names on Twitter. Also, it might be in the spirit of the game to be able to thank your #sandwich for being so tasty. Too silly?
