A few basic missing things
I really love the interface and that with some of the features so far makes me really want to love Postbox. But there are a few things missing that will keep me from switching from Mail. I hope that I'm just being overly eager and that there are plans for these few things in the initial release.
- Signatures. This is basic for any good email client.
- Preview pane on right instead of bottom. Having a widescreen monitor makes this a necessity to a degree.
- Address book integration (which someone already mentioned)

The best point from the company

Hi Angie,
You should be able to create a signature for yourself already. Put your signature in a text file and save it somewhere.
Then Tools / Account Settings / <choose> and then check:
[ ] Attach this signature
As you pointed out, the mac system address book changes are coming soon.</choose>

Totally missed that. Works like a charm. Now if I could just have a "widescreen preview" I'd be really happy. :) -
for some reason my signature is not attaching to my message. -
I did the above, both as an rtf and txt file, and either way, my signature is just a long string of code. What am I doing wrong? Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Hmmm... while you can add a signature to a message you cannot have multiple signatures active at the same time. The mail I send to different groups gets different signatures. For instance, personal mail gets a simple "Thanx!" sig. while responses to the Debian mailing list get a more detailed one with all my contact information. The signature is also dependent upon the file staying in the same location. If you move it or delete it you no longer get a signature added to your messages.
Did I miss something about attaching multiple signatures and choosing between them at message creation?
Thanx!
Richard

That's a good point Richard. I kind of like that about Mail. Another thing I wouldn't mind is having signatures *not* apply when replying. Or at least having a checkbox for whether or not I want to include one on a particular message. -
You could have multiple identities setup and give each one a signature.
I really like the way they are handling signatures right now. Being able to use plane text lets me email changed signatures to myself so that i can update them on multiple computers. What would be even better would be the ability to put in a URL and have it go grab a document off the web. -
I agree with you Richard, I wish it had a similar way to add multiple signatures as other email clients have. -
Same here Shane. -
You could do an HTML sig that links to an image on the web.
That would actually be a preferable option to sending out the same image in email a billion times. -
Cheers, I will try that out and see if html works as an attached signature.. -
Inappropriate?I think the Postbox team should improve the signature feature. I'd appreciate a Rich Text-editor where you can also add images, links etc. easily. And adding different signatures for different e-mails is a must.

Inappropriate?HTML e-mail is evil :-P
In any case a signature switcher (like the Thunderbird plugin or how the signature works in Mail.app) would be really welcome !! -
I agree -
Inappropriate?Only having one signature per account is fine by me. And the way it's implemented (choosing a html file) is fine.
But I'd love the ability to put the signature above quoted text. And to get rid of that little --- above the signature. -

Inappropriate?Signature management is a big "need" — any updates from the Postbox team on this?
-
Inappropriate?I can ́t get the signature function to work. I only get a long string of code, as desribed above. I use the mac version. I would also like to have a multiple choice of signatures, as i Mail.
thanx, and keep upp the good work.

Inappropriate? My solution to the whole multiple signature, images in signature thing -- been doing this for a year now -- is to stop using signatures in my mail client (which has been Apple Mail). Instead, I use a text expander type program: TextExpander, Typinator, etc. (these are Mac applications, I'm sure something like this is available for PC users). This way I can have exactly the signature I want, and insert it anywhere I want. No clicking to select a different signature, etc. -- just type the shortcut and it insert the correct signature. (Yes, I know this probably requires purchase of a separate application, but I use it for lots of other purposes too.)
-
That is a good idea. I use texter (windows) to do this, but how do you preview the signature? Do you insert pure html code? -
Inappropriate? The best solution to me is for them to just make it easier to add multiple signatures.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Angie, just wanted to follow up on your feature request to let you know that multiple signatures are now a part of Postbox beta.ten. Thanks for the idea!
-
Thanks Scott, that's awesome! -
Inappropriate?Signatures need to allow text formatting in the form of using multiple fonts and colors.
