Add thread view sort order option
When viewing conversation threads, I would prefer to have the oldest message at the top and the newest at the bottom. Why? Because English and most other western languages are read from top to bottom, of course, and it respects the order in which the thread actually took place. Is there any way a sort order option could be added for this?
Also, please consider making the disclosure triangle show/hide the entire message in thread view, rather than just the recipient. Finally, it would be easier if the entire blue bar were clickable to show/hide, rather than just the disclosure triangle.

Inappropriate?Try this Jeff:
Tools / Options / Advanced / Config Editor
in the text box type in:
mail.conversation_display.reverse
and then toggle the value of that preference
Restart Postbox and that should do what you want.

That works for me. Many thanks! -
Actually, this only partially works. "Gathered" conversations do not seem to respect this setting. -
Lifesaver; Thanks Scott! -
I am with Webflint on this one. A toggle button (eg: near the "Show All" button) that would change the conversation sort order on the fly would be super!
Cheers,

Inappropriate?Maybe someone else can test this, too. For me, when I change the pref to view conversations chronologically and then 'Gather' a conversation, the sort order is not right. The original message appears somewhere in the middle of the list, when it should clearly be at one end or the other. I'm pretty sure I tried this with more than one message thread.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the bug report Jeff. I just fixed this so it should work in the next update.

Most excellent. -
Inappropriate? It would rock if there was a button (and shortcut) in thread view that would change the sort order on the fly. Scrolling to the bottom every time to view the latest message is pretty cumbersome, which is probably why the default is set to reverse.
I'd like to keep it reversed if there was a way to quickly switch to chronological view if I needed to orient myself with the discussion. Most of the time I am only concerned about the most recent unread message.
Also it would be great if any message that was read would start in collapsed view, with only the unread messages expanded. -
Inappropriate?webflint, mbond pointed out the other day that you can go to Preferences / Display
type in:
pb.conversation_display.max_open_messages
and change the value to 0. This will cause only unread messages to be expanded in a conversation. Read messages will always be collapsed. -
thanks Scott. I was the one who actually brought this to mbond's attention:) It was a new setting in b10, I posted some notes on it here:

Inappropriate?heh...my bad. thanks for suggesting that pref as a work around Webflint! Gotta give props to the right person!

Inappropriate?I tried Scott's directions but there is no:
Tools / Options / Advanced / Config Editor
In the Mac version. Did it get moved in V1.0?
-
on the mac it is:
Preferences / Advanced / Config Editor. -
Inappropriate?fixed in Postbox 1.0.1 which is now available and includes UI in Preferences / Display / Conversations for this.
