AppleScript
AppleScript support would draw me in right away, otherwise it's just a nice Thunderbird-clone.

Inappropriate?Really? You don't think Postbox offers any meaningful and significant improvements over Thunderbird?
I do. (And I've used the Thunderbird 3 nightly builds.)
I'm guessing AppleScript support is not likely in the near future (if ever), as Postbox is a cross-platform application. But it's only my guess. -

Inappropriate? Thanks Jeff. Still got that 'a polished t-bird'-feeling about it, but what I do like is: the separating lines for messages, the way that it handles attachments and especially the Inspector.
Okay, Postbox is more pleasing to the eye than Mail. But I'm setting up a production workflow which uses AppleScript to place certain attachments in a folder on my desktop.
I'll keep an eye on Postbox, though.

See Sherman's response here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/postbox/to...
He's talking about the OS X spell checker, but I think his comments are still relevant to AppleScript support. -
Inappropriate?I was one of the project managers on AppleScript back in the day, and while I think AppleScript support would be a really great thing to do, it is not currently on our near-term roadmap.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Without AppleScript, there's no way to programmatically manipulate mail in any way other than the way the program decides is best. Not very Mac-like at all.
Not everybody writes scripts, but a lot of people use other's scripts to do everyday things the original developers couldn't have anticipated. And it's not that much overhead unless you're using a silly lowest-common-denominator cross-platform development system.
I’m not impressed.
-
Inappropriate?Yup, Postbox might as well be in Java.
Figures, I liked Postbox too much. Straw hasn't broken camel's back yet, but the weight (wait) is getting mighty unbearable. GetSatisfaction.com is here so we, the customers, can hint/push/remind/grunt at ya about what might need to be in your roadmap.
I’m very disappointed.

Inappropriate?Wow .. you guys marked applescript as "no plans to do this?"
seriously?
I suddenly feel like i've wasted a LOT of time with this application. I'm in dire need of applescript at the moment and am using Mail.app because of it.
Honestly, if this doesn't change soon i don't see Postbox in my future. I've been waiting patiently for applescript support, and i really do NEED it.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Let's define AppleScript support into two buckets:
1) enough to facilitate specific and defined workflows between Postbox and other Mac OS X technologies/applications that utilize/depend on AppleScript - yes, there's interest in doing this, but it's unclear when this will happen.
2) full scriptability of functions/capabilities that are unique to Postbox - probably not for a long, long time, and this would probably be driven more by an internal need for testing automation than market demand.

That's all well and good, but do to my current project I'm gonna be off Postbox for the foreseeable future.
At the very least, I would need a menu bar icon that displays the current unread count. This is what i'm using with Mail.App until I get my Dock back (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22042)
I'll likely take the time (after i get the project going full steam) to write an applescript later and display the changes with Geektool, but for now cluttering my menubar is fine.
Sorry. but, for at least the next 3 or 4 months no apple script and no menu bar icon == no postbox testing.
If you throw a menubar icon in, shoot me an email and i'll start testing again ;-). -
Sherman, thanks for defining the scripting support -- that sets customer's expectations right away. I appreciate your point!
Also, I believe that basic capability as defined in point one (defined workflows) would be a great inclusion. However, being that Postbox is cross-platform, I can also see where this could be a developer's nightmare. After all, there is no Applescript in Windows. So, perhaps if this feature could be implemented with a common open-source language (python, ruby, or f-script). I'm just throwing out suggestions here. :)
What we're seeing here is one of the drawbacks of cross-platform development. We users become accustomed to using the highly-polished native apps with all their bells and whistles (like Quick View of a mail message?) and expect the same from something that has to work on multiple platforms. I feel your pain. -
Inappropriate?Really would LOVE AppleScript support too. If it got there, I hereby will vow to write the AppleScripts to create actions in OmniFocus based on emails :)
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I'd like to put my support in for AppleScript. Postbox is nice, but I too just get that polished T-Bird feeling. I really need AppleScript to make my workflow with email.
Personally, I get most of my to do items in the form of an email message. Since email clients are notoriously poor places to manage tasks, the tasks need to be moved to a better place like OmniFocus or Things. This is where AppleScript becomes critical.
Apple Mail is problematic and slow. Postbox/T-Bird is really fast but I lose any efficiency gains by having to retype tasks that come to me in an email. -
Inappropriate? What I really miss is the print-pdf-mail pdf functionality!!!!
Can't make no automator workflows.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I too would like to be able to run apple scripts in the mail filters - I use a script to capture an email message from reQall and send it to The Hit List inbox, so I can't consider switching from mail.app until that that is available. Bummer, I just spent an evening playing around with Postbox and I wish I had checked that first. Going (reluctantly) back to Mail.
I’m disappointed, but hopeful?
