Cant send - smpt timed out
I have a problem sending an email using postbox with my hotmail account. I keep getting this error message "The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.live.com timed out. " and I have no clue what to do.

Inappropriate?Did you create your hotmail account via our hotmail account wizard so it picked all the settings for you?
This usually happens when a firewall is blocking Postbox from reaching the SMTP server on the specified port. Do you have any firewall software on your machine? -
Inappropriate?Yes I used the hotmail account wizard. I am just using the windows firewall in vista.
-
Inappropriate?I changed the exceptions to the windows firewall to allow Postbox but I still receive the same problem.
-
Inappropriate? That's really strange. Do you have a corporate firewall that could be in the way?
For grins, tools / account settings / outgoing server (SMTP) / edit your smtp.ive.com server. What port is it trying to use and is it set to use SSL, STARTLS or none? -
Inappropriate? No I dont have another firewall. The port is 25 and its set on STARTTLS
-
Inappropriate? We were able to reproduce this too! Looks like hotmail is blocking port 25 right now althought they didn't used to do that.
Try changing your port to 587. -
Inappropriate?"The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.live.com was lost in the middle of the transaction" that was the messaged I received when I changed to port 587. I tried unchecking and checking the box to use secure authentication but no luck either.
-
Inappropriate?Hmmm, that fixed it for us. Now that you do seem to be reaching the server Hung, do you mind generating an smtp protocol log that captures your attempt to send a message an sending that log to support@postbox-inc.com with a link to this bug report?

Thanks!

Inappropriate? When I followed your instructions on the email I got this message." The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.live.com was lost in the middle of the transaction." I tried thunderbird the other day and it seems to have worked fine when I set the port number of the smtp to 587.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?i did use a gmail account to send out my emails and it worked fine on postbox but it didn't work for hotmail so it probably is my firewall?
