compose in new tab
I'd like to be able to compose in a new tab rather than having to open a new window.

Just downloaded Postbox. It looks great so far, thanks for all of your hard work.
For me though, the inability to compose in a tab is a downright deal breaker. I may have 10 or 20 e-mails that I am working on at any time, and having the option to contain all of that in a tab system (like you get with gmail+browser) is essential.

One reason this would be a great feature is that when I am writing an email (in Thunderbird on the Mac) there are times when I want to refer to an email not part of that conversation. After returning to the inbox window and finding the information I needed, there’s no keyboard shortcut to get be to the email I am composing; I have to go up to the Window menu and select the email I am composing. Having a tab would be a sleek solution.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?Yea, that annoys me when it comes up with a new Window.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the feature idea guys and for trying Postbox!

Inappropriate?A little more complex due to toolbar issues, but something that we think could be cool.

Hmm - the lightning calendar opens-up in a new tab and changes the toolbar as well - should be do-able! -

You can also hit Command + ~ to toggle through all windows associated with your current program. I use it instead of clicking on the Windows menu. -
Inappropriate?Oh yes, this would be great. The reason why tabs are so useful are for situations such as this.
Thanks
I’m excited

Inappropriate?New windows are also useful though. I work on many different virtual desktops (Spaces on MacOS X), and like being able to open things to new windows and drag them to other spaces.
Post box is very "tab oriented" right now and much less "window" oriented. I love the idea of being able to compose to tabs, but i would still like to see more "new window" options built into the application as well.

It sounds like having the option to compose in a new tab or in a new window is the way to go. -

Inappropriate?Exactly *this one thing* primarily keeps me from letting my old Eudora go:
Eudora (at least the windows version) opens its windows for writing a new email within its mail window, thus providing a true MDI interface. Therefore, you have your mailbox tabs open and have, let's say, two composer tabs where you write an email. If you leave and close the email program and return later and start it again, everything opens again, including the unfinished emails. So you just write on - that's it, no searching in a "draft" folder necessary (actually, no draft-folder necessary...).
Please add this!!! (maybe as an option, so that a user can switch between both ways) -
Inappropriate?Another vote for the compose-in-new-tab feature. I suggested this to Zoho a while ago (among others I guess), and I see that it has been implemented. Hope to see this in Postbox too :-)

Inappropriate? This is a wonderful idea but I would love to have also the possibility to compose in a new window. Sometimes I have a postbox message (in the message list) at the left side of my screen and the compose window at my right side of the screen.
This gives me the possibility to pickup/view information from other messages, information I need to compose my new message.

Like someone said before, "It sounds like having the option to compose in a new tab or in a new window is the way to go". Should be something configurable. -
Inappropriate?I suspect this will come -- Postbox is based on Thunderbird and the next release of TB (3.0) will have this feature
-
I checked TB 3b3 and I don't like it. -
I haven't looked at it yet -
David, I cannot compose a mesage in a new tab with TB 3b3. -

Inappropriate? One of the things that bugs me about Mail.app is that when I am composing and I need to reference another mail, I have to either use expose, or drag the window out of the way, to see the main program windows. When I saw the tabs in Postbox I thought my prayers were answered. Sadly not.
-
Inappropriate?Sadly it was a deal breaker for me -- Now that PB is out of beta I had to consider if I should pay for it. I have no issue paying for products I use but this missing feature causes me some irritation so for now I have abandoned PB
I’m sad

I'm sure the owners of Postbox will add this feature. A lot of people want this (including me :-))
Hope there will be always a possibility as well to open the compose tab in a new window. -
Inappropriate? With this many user votes, it's definitely at the top of the list (and I personally want it!). But tab code is tricky, and it's the kind of thing that we would implement when we're ready to introduce a pretty significant amount of destabilization, e.g. a 1.1, 1.2, or a 2.0 release. 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 releases will be dedicated to bug fixes.

thank you Sherman. -
Inappropriate? Thanks. With such a long beta one would hope that bug fixes are few and new features are coming soon ;-)

Inappropriate?me too. Definitely need this to make me a paying customer

Inappropriate?Hello, is there anyway to have the compose new message WINDOW open in a new tab as opposed to a new window?

compose message window in a tab?.

Inappropriate? Is it possible to compose new messages in a pane in the 3-pane layout rather than in a whole new window? This would be a boon.

Inappropriate? How to open "new message" in tab? Only thing keeping me from using Postbox is that the "create new message" window is not opened in a tab. How can I write a new message in a tab (always)?
Sincerely, Sebastian

Inappropriate?Hi Sebastian,
we currently do not support compose in a tab but that's an interest idea we would consider for a future version.

Hi Scott,
I've been using Postbox for a couple of weeks now, and I must say, it's a nice app. However, the downfall is the tab behavior... that it does not work when composing or replying to messages.
Reading through the thread it seems this is a deal breaker issue for most. I certainly feel the same way and would not become a paying customer for this reason.
The idea was raised many months ago (9 months). When you mention "consider" what would we be looking at? 1 month or 1 year?
Please advise...
Cheers,
Boots -
Inappropriate?Hi boots,
That's a pretty significant change and is something we'd consider for a major release (pb 2, 3, etc.) not a point release to the existing product line.
-Scott -
Inappropriate?very good idea. one other idea (along with gmail tagging and fixing the threading feature so it actually threads) that could get me using postbox again.
-
Inappropriate?The Mozilla community is already working on this, see link;
https://bug449299.bugzilla.mozilla.or... -
Inappropriate?Really looking forward to this. Meanwhile, using Mailplane. No tab compose/reply either, but has all the nice gmail tagging features.
