Growl integration should display a preview for the email
Whenever I get an email from Mailplane, etc., Growl pops up and tells me who sent it, a synopsis of the email and then (if they're in my Apple Address Book), a picture of the person that actually sent me the email.
This is an essential feature, because right now I just find myself needing to go in and look at every email that comes across my inbox, rather than being able to be selective depending upon the actual email that comes in.

Not being able to at least see the Subject drives me crazy. I have no idea of the importance of an item when I can't see the subject. I am BEGGING at least for the subject to be shown (and hopefully soon)

would be good to have a control over what it displays and be able to choose at least a number of individual notification or just one notification for all... and maybe, have a choice of what content is displayed (subject, sender, etc.)
I’m frustrated

I think the first few messages should be shown with the subject, sender, and their icon, which would bring up that specific message when clicked on. If there are more than 5, the rest could be condensed into a notification stating "and 6 more." which would take you to the inbox when clicked. I don't know if this is doable, but I think this would prevent filling the screen with notifications while still giving some detail.

Inappropriate?I would even be happy with just seeing Sender and Subject, and maybe their photo.

Inappropriate?Cool idea!

any update on enhancements to growl? (please see my comment below) -
Inappropriate? At the moment clicking the Growl notification causes no further action. I would it expect to open the incoming message in a (new) Postbox window.
I’m sad
-
One problem is that there can be any number of new messages, so always opening all new messages might not be a good idea. Maybe if there are only a few, then open them. Otherwise, it remains just a notification. I don't know. -
Inappropriate?I'd prefer a single notification for each single incoming mail in general.
But I can imagine this could be too much for some heavy users... -
I agree. I prefer individual notifications. -

Inappropriate?@James: Sounds like a good idea to me.
And when the Postbox is launched, no Growl popup at all or only a mail per mailbox count.

Inappropriate?Could we also get a smoother looking Growl icon for Postbox? Looks like the one in use is inherited from Thunderbird, and was rendered at 32x32 or maybe 64x64. It would be nice to have something that looks as nice as the rest of Postbox.
-
Inappropriate?@james: Great idea! But should include snippet as well. In an idea world your idea + snippet would be the default but there would be a way to easily configure it to behave differently to suit your preferences.
The prototype of Growl's future growlTunes plug-in is a great example of how that can be done. (my information may be out of date, as I haven't checked on growlTunes in a while...).

Inappropriate?Having the growl notification be customizable would be best i think.
I want to see, basically, what is there now:
1) Which account receives the mail
2) Who it is from
A picture of who it is from would be pretty nice, per @jeff's idea ... but i don't really want to see any more information than that. I don't want my growl notification taking up very much space.

Inappropriate? If you look up the Mail.appetizer plugin for Apple Mail, it includes a lot of this functionality listed and maybe a little more. If you could implement this, that would be awesome!

Inappropriate?Even more growl. Can't concentrate on work if a huge popup would appear. I check my mail at fixed times. Dock unread count is enough for me.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?no growl is a good idea for a "option" definitely not a fixed feature :)
I’m waking up
-
Inappropriate?System Preferences, Growl, Applications, Postbox, Configure, Notifications.
If you want a feature request for an option unrelated to the subject of this one, please file a separate ticket.
