Hide messages after sending unless there's an error.
It would be great if Postbox hid a message as soon as the user hits "Send". Process the sending of the message in the background, and only pop up further dialogs if something goes wrong. This gets the message out of the way and lets the user move on to another task.

Inappropriate? An "Outbox" would be a great addition here. That way, if I were to be offline and wanted to queue up messages to be sent, the Outbox could be utilized for this.

this is one of the best points

There is an Outbox. Well, it's called "Unsent" and it's in your Local folders. You can queue a message using File > Send Later. -
That's not an outbox but a 'concepts' folder. I too would LOVE an outbox where sent mail sits for a given time. This feature will make me abandon mail app. -
Huh? I don't follow you. How is it not an outbox? And what is a 'concepts' folder? That sounds more like the Drafts folder to me. If you 'Send Later' a message, it sits in the Unsent folder for a given time. -
That's what I meant. In my language drafts are called concepts.
I tried the 'send later' option and it is clearly a draft mechanism. I don't want an extra 'send later' button I have to go into the file menu for. ALL my outgoing mails should sit in an outbox until they are sent out automatically every x minutes or when I hit a 'send all' button. -
'Send Later' is a queueing mechanism. The 'Save' button is for saving a draft.
I agree there should probably be a toolbar button for 'Send Later'. It sounds like you are also wishing for a way to Send Later (queue) messages by default. -
Inappropriate? We're really interested in just closing the compose window right away and getting it out of the way while the message gets sent. Haven't thought as much about the outbox but as jeff said it seems like leveraging the SendLater feature is the way to go for the outbox. File / Send Later is always available. Shift-cmd-enter will also send later when you are online)
-
I still think 'send later' is the exact same thing as saving as a draft because the mail just sits there in both cases until I decide to act. A real outbox doesn't need actions, it functions automatically.
Or maybe I just can't find the 'Unsent' folder's timer setting? -
Inappropriate?Whether it's "Sent Later" or "Sent Now," there's no reason to block the UI while the client talks to the server. Pop up a notification if it fails, but otherwise, let it ride.
One option would just be to put everything in "Send Later" by default and schedule the sends. It's a rather 1995 way to deal with email, but it works. Then make CMD+SHIFT+ENTER send immediately (and block the UI).
I’m wondering why something so fundamental isn't in Thunderbird/Postbox yet
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for all the ideas guys. This is definitely something we'll be improving in Postbox.
