Hotmail: mail not so hot.
Hola!
One of the reasons I wanted to make the jump from Thunderbird to Postbox is the easy Hotmail account setup, but can't seem to get Hotmail to work for the life of me on this thing. I know I just use Hotmail for a junk email these days but still it would be nice to have it working properly so I don't have to log into MSN.
Pray tell, what am I doing wrong? I keep getting this error:
"Could not connect to server pop3.live.com; the connection was refused."
This appears to be illogical. Whats the secret here?

Inappropriate?could your firewall be blocking the connection?
Do other accounts work ok in Postbox? -
Inappropriate?Yeah other accounts are working fine. I even set the firewall to accept all incoming connections too. No workie.
Should I try something else?
(OS X 10.5.6)
I’m bummed

Inappropriate?Does Hotmail have pop3 support? I thought you would need Hotmail Plus to use pop3..
I’m undecided
-
they have since opened up POP3 access without needing a plus account I believe. -
Inappropriate? Here's some info on live mail: http://www.postbox-inc.com/support/ho... but I don't think that's going to fix your problem.
Do you want to double check your user name value for the account against the info there?
A connection refused error sure sounds like a firewall thing. Or we're using the wrong port.
You can try creating a POP3 log:
http://getsatisfaction.com/postbox/to...
and sending it to support@postbox-inc.com with a link to this get satisfaction thread and I can see if anything looks interesting but it sounds like from your error we aren't even getting a connection. -
Inappropriate?Sent.

Inappropriate?SMC,
was just getting back (belatedly) to your issue. I found on tip by googline around on the web:
Preferences / Advanced / Config Editor
type in: network.ntlm.send-lm-response
and change the pref to true.
restart and try getting your mail again from this account.

Inappropriate?oh and if that doesn't work just double check in Tools / Account Settings / Account / Server Settings that use secure authentication is unchecked for your hotmail account.
