inbox is empty, but thinks it is full--and won't compact
When I try to receive mail, I get a message to the effect that my inbox is full. The message suggests that I delete messages and compact the file. So, I archived all my messages and tried to compact the file, but I continue to get the same message.
My "empty" inbox file exceeds 4gb, so it wouldn't seem that the compacting actually occurred. But other than using the compact file function, I am at a loss as to what else I might do.

Inappropriate?is this an imap or pop3 folder steven?
-
Inappropriate?I'm seeing this problem too. My (POP3) Inbox has 4 Gb, I moved lots (approx. half) of messages to the Archive folder, but I'm still unable to compact my Inbox so it shrinks below 4 Gb!!! Help!
I’m desperate

Ah, thanks to sed and the mbox file format that Postbox (and Thundebird) uses I was able to compact my Inbox "by hand" and got it working! I lost an entire working afternoon, hope it won't blow up again. -
so Postbox wouldn't compact the folder after you deleted those messages for you? -
Inappropriate?Yes, Postbox wouldn't compact the folder after I deleted the messages "normally" (using the Delete command). I had to forcefully compact the file using sed to delete the messages I had just moved (copied actually) to the Archive folder.
