New To-do list tab
How about placing a to-do list tab next to the attachments/images/links buttons? Seams like a no brainer to me. Anyone agree? Here is a quick mockup that I came up with.
This would make viewing to-do items much more easy with just one click to view them all in a separate tab.

A more constructive critisim, It would be great if that 'tab opening bar' could be configurable to some extent. Much like the Toolbar is configurable, have a whole slew of things that could go there and let people arrange them and add/subtract them.
1) attachments
2) Images
3) Links
4) Contacts
5) Todo's
6) Saved searches
7) Topics (including management so you don't have to go into preferences)
8) Attachments & images (having both in 1 would be useful)
that's just things off the top of my head that would be useful.
Personally i would have the following:
Attachments & Images | Links | Todo's
Saved searches would, ideally, be in their own panel on the left. But I would throw them up there if there is no left hand panel for them.

Inappropriate?I like this idea. I also cannot understand why To-Dos are shown in the Inbox.
-
The long term plan is to make the buttons in this tab strip extensible and configurable. -
Inappropriate? This is a repost from a list of what I'd like to see, but I think it's relevant.
ToDos
(I got excited about ToDos and Annotations of these, but was a bit disappointed. Perhaps I missed something, but ToDos are just emails to yourself and annotations are just revisions to emails received or sent.) I would love something a little more robust. Idea:
When you create a ToDo from a message, it opens the HUD where you can assign a priority, title, note and deadline for your Todo. It then tags the message with the priority number and saves your information in an invisible field. You can access this field through a ToDo tab (Michael's wonderful mockup), similar to the ones for Contacts, Attachments. You can also click on the ToDo tag and see a HUD of your task. Perhaps even better, the second time you view this HUD, you have options to Mark Done, Postpone, Wait for Comment)
Annotations
In addition, it would be great if it worked more like comments in a blog, where the message was unaltered.

@cfasca - our goal is to make the simplest use case work the best it can first, then layer on additional functionality. Our initial goal is to help people make sense of an overloaded inbox first (the people who don't have any kind of to-do management at all), but additional functionality is something we're thinking about. A big issue is in getting all of this extra data to sync across multiple machines. To do this properly, we'll need to light up some backend services and we're just not there yet. -
"To do this properly ..."
Did you mark it as a Todo in postbox, or did you give it a topic? ;-) -
Bugzilla :D -
Inappropriate? This has been mentioned 2 or 3 times in the past ...
Postbox-inc guys ... um ... Get Satisfaction kinda sucks, can we get some real forums? It seems like there are a lot of reposts just because things get lost so quickly. Its very hard to just scan and see what has been written before and to search for previous topics. -
Yeah, I agree. I tried to search for previous post about this issue, but it was too hard to find, and I was afraid people wouldn't find my post. -
I find that searching works better if I enter keywords into the "Ask a question about Postbox" field, and ignore the search field on the right completely. This way, it will show you matches in real time. Not too shabby.
Unfortunately, few people seem to notice the suggested prior posts when they are about to post something new. Things do seem to get lost quickly. -
Inappropriate?I think cfasca's ideas are great. ToDos should work like an organizer, annotations shouldn't alter a message. I tried using the ToDo feature, but I think the way it is now it isn't very helpful.

There's a lot on the whiteboard that we want to do. We'll implement some more features in 1.0, even more in 2.0, etc. Please be patient. -
@sherman
I mentioned this in another thread somewhere.
It would be great if we could see more details on what you guys are thinking and tracking. Some sort of tracking software that gives a relative order or priority for bugs and ideas.
It would be great to be able to see what you intend to be in a 1.0 verses a 2.0 release. -
@mbond
Our goal is to be as flexible and nimble as possible Some things we know we have to do. For others, we look to feedback in Get Satisfaction to figure out how and when to implement.
For example, Signatures, Quick Look, advanced conversation views and some unread/read tweaking are all a result of GS feedback, as they were not on our roadmap previously.
We're also looking to be a bit more transparent in what we do. For example, we've tossed up an idea for contacts search in the compose window to solicit ideas. But we haven't written a single line of code on that. Over time we'll put more ideas up to see how well they stick.
A great indicator of what's on our mind is to simply look at the number of "me toos" in GS. We look at all of this stuff, even if we do not reply to each and every topic. -
Is there a way to sort GS so that it lists all the "Me Toos" in rank order?
Personally, i find get satisfaction to be extremely cumbersome to use. -

Inappropriate? These are all super good ideas guys. It would be nice if someone from Postbox would give us some feedback....
-
We read everything, but we do not always have time to respond to each and every post AND still get some work done. -
Inappropriate?Scott's been pretty active. So I'm not worried that about our ideas not getting read. I posted a few messages yesterday and he responded by the end of the day. As more people start banging away at Postbox, I imagine it'll take a bit longer.
-
I hear ya man. I guess I did sound a bit rude. Sorry for that. I know they have a ton of feedback and its going to take a while to get through it all. I just hope this feature makes it into the next update :)! -
Inappropriate?Parhaps some integration with online services like Rembember the Milk, or Google Task, would be just GREAT.
Also, I prefered an individual Tab for Tasks, and keep my inbox for mails.
I’m excited
