Outlook Import Troubles
I imported my information from Outlook, but not everything is there. The 2 main issues are:
1. No email account settings were transferred. (Just an FYI as I've entered these manually.)
2. I had Outlook set up with 3 pst files. 2 imported fine, the 3rd only contains the folder structure, but no messages. Each pst is 600+ MB. I have tried re-indexing with no success, which is not surprising since the msf files are simply too small to contain that much information.
I'll try disabling the 2 pst files I've already imported and just import the remaining one in case it was just an issue of too much information at one time. I'll have to move the imported file structure to my new computer (where I have made the switch to Postbox) and hope it picks up the new info.
Future users might appreciate the ability to import pst files directly, rather than having to have them set up in Outlook (especially when switching to a new system like I am). It's also not going to help my workflow much that all of 3 accounts got imported into Local Folders instead of being set up as separate accounts, but hopefully the ability to move folders will be added soon so I can just move them where I need them to be.
Thanks for the software, and please take this as a bug report, not a complaint. Keep up the good work!

Inappropriate?Hey, Sam. Just installed Postbox and had the same lack of Outlook import experience. Nothing really imported from Outlook and that's bad news because I don't think that I'm not going to take the time to go through the setup as you did. Are you still using Postbox? Please share some of your experience.
By the way, no calendar and no real manual don't help the sale.
All the best,
I’m disappointed.

Inappropriate?I was eventually able to get all of my emails imported. Unfortunately they all ended up in Local Folders, rather than being imported to separate accounts. For me Local Folders more of an annoyance to be overcome than a beneficial feature since it doesn't provide any functionality that is meaningful to my needs, and there is (still) no easy way to move folders from there to the accounts they should be in, making for a disjointed and cumbersome workflow. That has been the single biggest annoyance in the experience.
Two of the other larger issues for me have been receiving calendar invites that I can't connect to a calendar. I prefer Google Calender over Outlooks anyway, but at least in Outlook they would end up on a calendar.
The other one is syncing contacts with my iPhone. I'm sure there must be a way, but I haven't figured it out yet. And if I ultimately have to rely on Google or something similar to get around the syncing issues, then Postbox would still only be half of the solution to my needs.
A good email program has to take into account the type of info that's coming in via email, and scheduling and contact info are an important part of that picture.
I would still say the benefits outweigh the annoyances though. The two features I REALLY like are search and tabs. They make a world of difference to my work and have been useful enough to keep me from switching back to Outlook. Other features like the ability to easily find recent messages from a contact or just view attachments add up too.
I'm still not loyal enough to Postbox that I wouldn't switch if I could find another decent solution (possibly even Gmail since it is set up on my domain), but Outlook is history... at least the current versions.
I guess my honest assessment would be that it is still too early for mainstream Outlook users to be switching, but I'm hoping Postbox really picks up some momentum.
I’m hoping for a brighter future.

Inappropriate?Thank you for your great reply, Sam. I'm still hanging on to Outlook 2003 since all my messages from years back are in there and I have not found anything that has given me enough confidence to switch nor the features that I too need like the calendar and mobile syncing. I think that one common problem that you and I have, as well as probably allot of persons, is the ability to extract information from within this email well where we have been storing our messages. I just installed NEO Quick from Caleo which is supposed to have a strong indexing engine and will help me find what I need. I tried NEO pro but it was too cumbersome and now I'm going to give this lighter version a test. Good luck to us.
I’m informed.

Inappropriate?Just to be clear, Tools / Import / Settings / Outlook failed to import your outlook account settings with outlook 2003? And outlook 2003 was correctly set as your default mail client before you tried to do the import right?

Inappropriate?Hi Scott,
Yes, Outlook 2003 is my default email client and it is working correctly. A few weeks ago I archived my messages into different folders set by years because the main .pst file was becoming unresponsive, and since then I have not had problems with my 2009 .pst. I should point out that the folder structure was imported for all years but not the messages. You should also know that I have about 15 different pop email accounts, but not one was transferred.
I'll be glad to answer any other questions that you may have.
