Put message window in background while sending
Instead of keeping the message composition window in the foreground after you click Send, it would be nice to send it to the background so that one can keep working. It seems silly to have to wait for the message to be sent or to manually switch windows.

You can take a step in this direction already by not showing the send progress dialog. To do this, go to Options/Preferences->Advanced->Config Editor. Look for the pref 'mailnews.show_send_progress' and double click to set it to false.
I also like the idea of getting rid of the window immediately.

Inappropriate?I agree. This initially confused me as to why it hangs around, and why there is duplicative status indication (with a status bar in both the existing window we would like removed and at the bottom of the program window).

Inappropriate?Really, there is no need to even hide window, just remove it immediately and show the status of the send at the bottom left, or by the "sent" folder icon. If there is any send error, then the window could be reopened with appropriate options (such as "send later"). Both Mail.app and Outlook function similar to this and it works well (as much as I hate to admit that anything MS works)

Yes. In fact, my SMTP server just timed out on trying to send a message, and I sure would have liked to have seen a 'Send Later' button in the dialog it showed me. -
Inappropriate? This is something that drove me up the wall in Thunderbird. My assumption is that mail is sent unless otherwise notified.

This sort of works, but the outgoing message still stays in front until it gets sent. Making some changes here would work wonders for efficiency of workflow.
