Select SMTP server
Would it be possible to select a SMTP server from the toolbar?
In TB exist a add-on SMTP select.
I have various SMTP servers and often change them.

Inappropriate?I like this idea. I think the SMTP and account wizard set up definitely has some room for improvement.
Thanks for the suggestion remin! -
Inappropriate?This would be especially useful if one SMTP server is down and postbox popped up asking if you would like to try another SMTP that you have defined.
Not always useful (at work we HAVE to use the on campus smtp server, everything else is blocked), but at home or on public wifi it would be helpful. -
Inappropriate?In GyazMail you have a sub-menu with all SMTP servers so you can choose which SMTP server to use at any time. That menu also contains a "default" entry that will send your e-mail using the SMTP server configured in the account settings for the e-mail account you are sending the e-mail from.
Using an appropriate SMTP server depending on your current location can result in a lower spam score in your recipient's spam filter. -
Inappropriate?It would be even better if postbox was location aware. If you current IP address is "whatever" or you are on wireless network "Blah" use SMTP server A.
Would be great for laptop users that move around to networks that don't allow SMTP traffic to leave without going through their servers. -
You're right. Location awareness would be even better. Actually I just logged back in to write that but you beat me to it. :-) -
Location awareness is great but there must be also a possibility to select the smtp server in the compose window i.m.o.
Another possibility is to convince the creator of the TB extension SMTP select, to port his extension also for Postbox. -
Inappropriate?NetworkLocation (Apple) can automatically change smtp settings for Mail, but not Postbox... It has location detection as well (through IP or wifi.)
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I have successfully manualy installed the TB smtpselect add-on in my PostBox. It works perfectly! I have been using it for months now. I have contacted the developer today to ask him to extend its add-on to Postbox.

thanks for doing this Laurent. Was it as easy as just changing the ID in install.rdf to make it compatible with Postbox? We'd love to see this add-on for Postbox! -
Similar add-on is SendVia https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thun... and that works also in Postbox and I can confirm that only thing you need is this install.rdf -modification. I also have also Signature Switch -add-on (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thun...) because I like automatically changing quotes in my signature. -
opened the xpi file, but what do I need to change in the rdf file. I can see the definitions for Thunderbird. -
Add for example this section:
<em:targetapplication>
<description>
<em:id>postbox@postbox-inc.com</em:id>
<em:minversion>1.0b15</em:minversion>
<em:maxversion>1.0b16</em:maxversion>
</description>
</em:targetapplication> -
I'll post the suggested addons for PostBox here: http://idisk.mac.com/countpollendesig... -
I confirm that smtpselect only needs the modification of the ID in install.rdf -
Inappropriate?yes nice add-ons.
Works well with postbox. -
Inappropriate?i'll try to add some more useful addons from the thunderbird website after I tested them. Also, theming would be nice if it worked...
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?There seems to be compatibility problems with Thunderbird addons with this kind of install.rdf file
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<rdf:rdf>
<rdf:description>
<em:targetapplication />
</rdf:description>
<rdf:description />
</rdf:rdf> -
Inappropriate?haven't noticed any incompatibilities yet. in my opinion it would be a good idea if mozilla addons all had postbox built-in, so we wouldn't have to do it by ourselves...
I’m indifferent
