spell check in other languages
I would write correct emails, and I want to install my country dictionary. This is the only reason why I could stop using your fantastic program. Do you have scheduled a date for this feature?

Hi Diazruanova,
I'm on Leopard... but I suppose it should work the same way.
I downloaded the language addons from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thun.... renamed the file to .zip and extracted the files. In the extracted folder go into dictionaries and you'll find a file ending in .aff and another ending in .dic. the name of the file depend on the language you've choosen.
Then what I did is open the Applications folder... go to Postbox.app and from the context menu I choose "Show package Contents". In the window that open I go into Contents/MacOS/dictioniaries and copy the files es-ES.aff and es-ES.dic (in my case spanish dics) in there.
Start or restart Postbox and there you have the new dictionaries.
HTH,
Miguel

Inappropriate?I have the same issue. Can you let us know how to add additional dictionaries??? Otherwise great product. Loving it!!!!
-
Inappropriate? It would be great that some employee or even the people that is developing postbox, could take the time to answer this and other questions like if it is going to be free or not, and NOT only the technical or the bug questions or reports.
It is a bad sign that you guys do NOT show your face when sensitive or uncomfortable questions are asked!
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? We plan on supporting localized versions of Postbox. When we do that, the locale will ship with the dictionary specific to that language (just like Thunderbird). And when we turn on add ons support additional dictionaries will be able to be installed through add-ons as well.
For those enterprising individuals that want to try to work around this until that time, you should be able to download the appropriate thunderbird dictionary .xpi file:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thun...
save that .xpi file to your disk, rename the extension to .zip. Open that file using your favorite zip tool and extract the .dic and .aff files.
Those files need to go in a folder called dictionaries. You might be able to put that folder in your profile along side files like prefs.js and localstore.rdf:
But I haven't tried that to see if it works. Otherwise you need to put it in the dictionaries folder in your postbox application folder (the folder should already exist and should be under c:\Program Files\Postbox\dictionaries.
Lemme know how that goes for anyone who wants to try!

Inappropriate?Hi Scott,
Thanks for replying!
I tried your possible solution on my Mac with the Spanish dictionary, but to no avail.
Any other suggestion?
-
Inappropriate? Are you on Mac or Windows Diazruanova?

Inappropriate?I am on Mac

I'm on a Mac. Go to:
/Applications/Postbox.app/Contents/MacOS/dictionaries/
and paste this 2 files of spanish dictionary:

Inappropriate?Changing topic to idea since it doesn't relate to a bug/defect, but rather, a larger issue of supporting additional locales.

Inappropriate? It worked for me (on OSX) putting the dictionary files in Postbox.app/MacOS/dictionaries/ :-)
I’m thankful
-
It worked for me the same way. But only until an update came along and the Postbox.app and all its content got overwritten. This repetition of copying files to Postbox.app/MacOS/dictionaries/ is a step too much for my taste. :( -
Inappropriate?Hi Miguel,
Thanks for posting. Would you mind elaborating a little more please?
Which files and the exact path to the folder where you placed the files? I am on Tiger 10.4.11
Best regards ;-) -

Great solution!!! -
Worked for me using en-GB dictionaries too! Many thanks! -
Inappropriate?Miguelito!!! you are a genius :-)
Your solution worked like a charm and certainly, it solves the issue unlike the "possible solution" that our friend Scott (employee ?!?) posted...umhh about 10 days ago!!!
so much for a speedy attention from the reps, even though, we are BETA testing their product. I like very much PostBox, but the response from the employees, leaves much to be desired.
Thank You very much

Inappropriate? Thanks for jumping in here and helping out Miguel!
-
Inappropriate?you can also use the ditionaries from openoffice (http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/w...). they are actualy better than the TB ones. you wil need to change the filenames to be the same as the TB one: hyphen instead of underscore
-
Inappropriate? This solution is working great... BUT, as we are in a beta stage and update the app often, be sure to keep somewhere on your disk a copy of the two dictionnary files. Otherwise you while have to download them and do the manipulation for each Postbox update !
I’m smart !

Inappropriate?Just switching the spell checker language with the locale Postbox runs with currently isn't good enough. I'm writing mails in several languages and I'd expect to be able to use the spell checker for any of them.
For Thunderbird I use the Dictionary Switcher extension; not perfect but okay.

Inappropriate? We've put together a test build in advance of the next public beta which supports installing mozilla dictionaries via our new add-ons manager.
Can some of you try it out and let me know how it goes? Thanks!
