Support of other languages (dictionary/spell check, Wikipedia etc.)
It would be great if the dictionary, spell check and Thesaurus could also work with other languages. I would also appreciate the support of Wikipedia, Google (Maps) etc. from other countries.

Inappropriate? Thanks Mr. Bond. I believe we'll be focusing on rounding out our feature set before we're ready and able to take on services in other countries but that's certainly part of our plan.

Inappropriate?Other dictionaries is a must for me as well

I found fast easy solution. Just download wanted dictionary extension for firerox/thunderbird and unpack-copy .aff and .dic files to:
c:\Program Files\Postbox\dictionaries\ -
Inappropriate?Multiple dictionaries are already avaiable in Thunderbird (although a bit cumbersome to use) so implementing them in Postbox shouldn't be too complicated.
Let me also add that, given the sorry state of Thunderbird in supporting multiple languages a good implementation in Postbox would help a lot!
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Andrea: I found a way to do it, and it works. In short: get the thunderbird .xpi file, unzip it (yes, an .xpi is just a zip basicly), and copy the .dic and .aff files to your /Applications/Postbox.app/Contents/MacOS/dictionaries folder (if you are using MacOSX). Maybe I'll blog about it later.
I’m happy

Frank : great ! It works perfectly ! -
This works perfectly. For the lowtech, you can rename the .xpi file to .zip so you can just double click it in Finder to "unzip" it.
If you have trouble with messages defaulting to U.S. instead of your preferred language, just delete the U.S. dictionary files like I did. I don't need them anyway.
I made these changes with the Postbox app closed, just in case. -
Works like a dream! Thanks -
great :) -
Inappropriate?this is the reason why I don't use postbox till yet (only for testing).
Can't live without french, dutch, italian and german spellchecker
-
Inappropriate?Remin, if you understand Dutch and have a Mac, please follow these instructions: http://frank.be/articles/2009/03/12/n...

Inappropriate? No mac, but I have found the solution as well.
Good to know that upgrades of postbox overwrites the dictionaries.
I will make a backup of the dictionary folder.
Thank you Frank.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Could you comment on that blogpost the location Windows or Linux users have to put the dictionaries? Or post it here and I'll add it to the post?
-
Inappropriate? You wrote the windows solution in the above post:

Inappropriate? This thread also has a write up on how to work around this for now:

until we support locales. -
Inappropriate?I would suggest using the standard Mac OS X spell-checking on the Mac. That way users would get the same behavior as in other applications: same dictionary, exceptions, ...

Inappropriate?I would love for PostBox to support other languages (Russian).. everytime my gf sends me emails all i get is like #*&^%$#%^**&^%$#@#$%^&* which is quite annoying :(
-
Inappropriate? We've put together a test build in advance of the next public beta which includes a fix for this issue if you'd be interested in giving it a spin and letting us know.

Thanks!

Inappropriate?Indeed the spell check in various languages would be appreciated as far as I'm concerned.
Tried to follow the procedure to download french via Firefox but in the end I got a message saying that the downloaded dictionary could not be used by my the current Firefox version...
Moreover I don't see how this add-on to Firefox could work on...postbox ! -
Inappropriate?Let me say it some easy and clear words: I like postbox but i would never ever pay for it until it supports my language. If this comes, you will have one day later a very satisfied customer who will talk about that great software to friends and colleagues.
Should not be too hard to add something to the preferences dialog to select the language e.g. for wikipedia & co. and it should also not be so hard to add support for the already existing dictionaries. -
The new release will have language support.
Beta is already available:
