I would prefer gmail's UI, where the shortcut "L" brings up the menu of topic choices to apply. If this shortcut simply brought up the menu you currently get from clicking the "Topics: (+)" plus-sign button -- and you could navigate the choices with the <up> and <down> keys -- I'd be very happy.

I am trying out Postbox after having been using Thunderbird. I like the interface and so on - and TB 3b always crashes on startup. PBox seems faster and better at rendering than TB 2. Anyway In TB i can tag messages with a keystroke. 1, 2 , 3 , 4 etc assign a different tag.
To assign a Topic in PB i need to use the mouse. not as fast.
that is an important feature. It holds me back to do a complete switch.

Uhm, isn't this what typing 't' does? It shows the topic dialogue, then type a few characters of the topic you want to assign, type enter/ return enter more topics or another enter to close the dialogue.

well with TB i set up if I press "1" it marks the message in red with the tag "urgent". one step. the con is that i have to memorize the tags - but if both methods would be available that would be best

I haven't found this a difficult adjustment. In fact, I now much prefer typing T, then typing the beginning of my Topic because it's similar behavior to filing messages away using the Nostalgy plug-in. Consistency of behavior est bueno.

This is the one feature I REALLY miss since switching from Thunderbird. I used the keys 1-5 all the time to quickly mark posts with important, work, to-do, etc.

I really hope Postbox implements one-key topics like this. It's almost enough for me to consider going back to Thunderbird.
