Unexpected behavior from compose window collapsible contacts sidebar

Hi Everyone -

I'm lovin' the program more than ever! Although I think the b16 contact sidebar functionality in the compose window is great, there's a slight issue when the sidebar closes. When it collapses, it doesn't collapse back toward the right window border from where it opened. Rather, the window border collapses into the sidebar and stops at the border of the message composition area (or the leftmost edge of the contacts sidebar); I lose about 20% - 25% of my composition area. I have to re-size the window manually to get that lost composition area back again. If I don't re-size the window manually after collapsing the sidebar, when I display the sidebar again, the sidebar opens by appearing to push the composition window border back to the edge of my monitor.

To sum it up, the sidebar opens fine initially. The issues arise upon subsequently opening and closing it. The window border should remain fixed and the sidebar should move, not vice versa. Thanks again!

happy I’m confident it'll be addressed.

Thanks for the bug report. I can't reproducethis on my mac. Is this on windows?

Are you running with the compose window maximized?

Are you running with the compose window near the right edge of your screen so we're trying to adjust for that perhaps?

I'm running Windows XP SP3. The compose window is not maximized but I do have it stretched from the left edge to the right edge of my screen and pulled up to the top of my screen. I leave just enough space at the bottom of my screen so the taskbar meets the bottom of the window. This behavior, BTW, still occurs in 1.0. I also loaded a trial version of 1.0 on my notebook, which runs Vista, and I can reproduce the same behavior with the sidebar. I'll resize the compose window to see if that doesn't change the sidebar's behavior.

I just tried opening and closing the sidebar while leaving about an inch of screen space between the compose window and the left and right edges of the screen. The sidebar exhibits the same behavior. It pushes the right edge of the compose window toward the right edge of the screen. When I close the sidebar, the right edge of the window is drawn to where the left-most edge of the sidebar was. If I leave less space between the right edge of the compose window and the right edge of the monitor, when I open the sidebar, the right edge of the compose window is pushed off-screen and I need to drag the window to the left so the right edge is visible once again. Does that make sense?

When the classic view of the PB window is activated and I click on the sidebar in the view pane repeatedly, the sidebar there behaves as I would expect. The sidebar slides out from the right edge of the view pane border and when I close it, it collapses back into the right edge of the view pane border. It doesn't drag the right edge of the PB main window toward the left edge of the view pane sidebar when it closes and it doesn't push out the right edge of the PB main window when it closes. Maybe that illustrates my point better than simply trying to describe the behavior I expected from the sidebar in the compose window. Thanks.
