Unexpected network access
Hello,
Postbox is a great product so far and I love it. But anyway I have a question concerning unexpected network access.
But although I disabled both the automatic upgrade check for Postbox and Add-Ons and the sending of anonymous usage statistic, Postbox still seem to try to contact the postbox-inc.com update server on port 443. At least this is what Little Snitch told me. Therefore I have three questions:
Thanks for all light you may shed over me :)

- So, what really happens here, as I do not assume Postbox is phoning home?
- How do I really disable any unwanted contact of Postbox to The Net?
- Or do I have to use Little Snitch to jail Postbox in?
Thanks for all light you may shed over me :)

Inappropriate?is it the start page load that's causing that? Although I'd expect that to be on port 80.
-
I am not sure. But today morning Little Snitch again asked me to permit access to updates.postbox-inc.com:443 (IP: 67.23.2.109), although again both the automatic update check as well as the anonymous usage statistic are disabled in the Preferences ...
And Postbox was running for several hours already (the whole, night I slept) and therefore there should not be no reason to show me that start page again, or should it? -
Inappropriate?yeah that doesn't sound like the start page then.
I assume you turned off checking for add-on updates as well?
we also use updates.postbox-inc.com to submit crash reports but you would have noticed that since you get a big dialog and have to agree to submit the report.
Not sure what else would be hitting that domain.... -
I indeed had some crashes in combination with Nostalgy add-on. I also did allow to submit a crash report. But all the other times, I did not allow. Do the crash reports stack up and ask again and again and again?
Those last connection attempts did not occur in a combination with a crash (at least not with a visible crash).
Yesterday I allowed said connection attempt once. Now I will wait, if this clears the situation or if there are other attempts following ...
Thanks for your help. -
Inappropriate?Another LittleSnitch user here who had the same concern some months ago. Can't find the thread but it DID turn out to be the start page.
Try deleting the start page URL in Preferences > General and see if that stops the phoning home.
Once I knew what it was, I allowed the connection. -
No, this unfortunately didn't solve the problem :-( But thank you for the hint! -
Inappropriate? If it helps at all, chi, here are my LittleSnitch settings for Postbox, all of which I'm comfortable with after months of using Postbox as my default email app. (And I'm a major "deny until quit" kinda guy.)
