Why isn't Postbox checking my Imap mail faster?

I am using google apps with 6 accounts that I connect via IMAP. Postbox is not checking for new mail often enough. It seems that I have to click through each folder to find out if new mail has been delivered. In Apple Mail the messages used to come instantly without even a timed check interval.
