Will addons be supported in Postbox?
Q. Will there be a time when Thunderbird (better still Postbox) addons are supported?
There are a few (like autocopy text and nested quote remover, etc) I would love to have access to inside Postbox....
Sorry if this is a repeat question.

Inappropriate?I would love to have addon support, too.
I need escpecially a gpg plugin like enigmail. -
Same for me. gpg is a must. -
Same here without GPG, it is not worth switching -
Inappropriate?me too, enigmail is something I cannot live without
-
About enigmail, have a look ther and express yourself : http://getsatisfaction.com/postbox/to... -
Inappropriate?I really like Postbox so far, but I need calendar integration with Lightning to completely leave Thunderbird.
I’m hopeful
-
Yeah, that's where I'm at. I'll leave postbox on the comp, as it looks very nice...but there's no way I can switch over without a calendar element. :-/
Ship me an email when you do? Haha -
Inappropriate?Stephen,
Eventually, we'll have a way to extend Postbox.
You can't install Thunderbird add-ons in Postbox at this time.
Thanks for the feedback and for using Postbox,
-Seth

Inappropriate?I second this too

Inappropriate?Huh. Seems like there is a workaround to install addons (extensions, at least) into Postbox even now.
Postbox: how to add an add-on manager to the GUI
I used this method to install Quicktext, keyconfig and AutoCopy.
I’m grateful
-
did you have problems? -
no, no problems so far -
try freepops.com
with this little software you can check yahoo and a lot more mail within postbox -
Inappropriate? We've put together a test build in advance of the next public beta which add add-ons support. We've been working with the QuickText and Nostalgy add-on authors to make them work in Postbox.
Check it out and let us know how it works:

Thanks!

Inappropriate? At this time, we do support add-ons! If there are specific add-ons that you would like to see running in Postbox, please contact the authors of those add-ons and ask them to create a version for Postbox. Thanks!

Inappropriate?I'd quite like to see the Plaxo add-on work in Postbox. The current one works in Thunderbird and as both Thunderbird and Postbox's underlying code is related (if i understand correctly), would enabling this add-on be easier for the Postbox team?
-
Checked this addon. The Plaxo plugin works with java (.jar file). This means that it is not so simple to change it. I recommend you to e-mail Plaxo about this and request that they add Postbox support.
Cheers! -
Actually, you can change it by unzipping the jar file. Jar files are just zipped files (in the extension universe) and then have their file extensions changed. You'll probably be able to port it, just need to change a few ids. -
Inappropriate?Ah right, thanks for looking into it!
Unfortunately as they haven't updated this add-on in such a long time, i doubt the exsisting plugin is worth their time anymore and i'm sure that they won't submit to making a new one for a new e-mail client. I'd rather spend my time emailing a company that cares. It's just a shame that they're the only one that has a Thunderbird plugin at all! -
Inappropriate?Just a heads up for Postbox, I have developed the QuickFolders (Folder Tabs) Add-On, and the latest version 1.6 is fully compatible.
QuickFolders adds a toolbar with shortcuts that work like folders in the folder tree, you can categorize and color them. You use them to jump into a folder or drag your emails there.
And now, a theming add-ons feature would be the next logical step. Wouldn't like to have the Windows 7 look on mine, as I am an avid XP Pro user. But Mostly Crystal is my favourite theme on all Mozilla based software, so I'd love to have that ported to Postbox.
cheers
Axel
I’m excited and happy
-
axel, thanks for letting us know about the new version of QuickFolders!
Please let us know when it is approved by the AMO editor and we'll update our add-ons page (http://www.postbox-inc.com/extensions) and provide updates for the Postbox users who are using 1.5pre2.
-Seth -
Sure will Seth, no problem.
I already got a fresh bug request for the QF1.6 menu colors in Postbox (it seems to ignore background color and background image on menupopup items) so I might upload a fix or workaround (1.6.1) before the reviewers get to it! Versions, Versions, Versions. Today I am adding Seamonkey to the mix, version 2.0 will be released in a weeks time!
Interesting times!!

Inappropriate?Just a screenshot of the QuickFolders plugin, to add to my previous post. This shows moving a mail onto a Quickfolder Tab and from there into a sub-subfolder. Hope you find the extension useful.
I’m confident

Thank you Axel. I can't find the new update. Are you sure you've updated it on Postbox/Mozilla? -
Inappropriate?Sure, you can find it here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thun...

its the one at the top. The way the Extension process works is that when you submit a new version it will be reviewed by an AMO editor before it is "allowed" on the main page of the extension. In my experience this can take up to 4 weeks, depending on their work load. Until then, the version will be marked as "experimental".
You can always get the latest versions by scrolling down on the main extension pages:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thun...
and finding the link "View Older Versions".

tnx :-)
Great release.
It takes some time before I'll see the tabs after starting postbox and the shortcuts don't work (1,2,3...9 to select tabs) but the coloring seems to work very well now. :-)
The submenus are working as well.
I can't see very well the name of the subfolders (is in dark red in stead of white). -
sorry, also the shortcuts do work (I activated "use ctrl in stead of Alt") -
Another thing about the menu colors - at the moment Postbox ignores the background styling on the active menus - there should be a yellow gradient background for the folder items, like on the Thunderbird version - the red looks quite readable on that. Will look into this. BTW Mozdev is currently out I don't exactly know why - so no bug reports possible at the moment :(. -
Inappropriate?you mean they don't work looks like Postbox doesn't allow my keyboard listener at the moment - also Postbox uses a lot more keyboard shortcuts than Thunderbird "out of the box" - so I am not really sure how to workaround that at the moment.
You can help by filling a bug report for Quickfolders under Postbox here:
http://quickfolders.mozdev.org/bugs.html
just make sure its a Postbox related bug in the subject line.
Also no harm in getting in touch with the feedback page at postbox to see what their opinion on using these number shortcuts is:
http://www.postbox-inc.com/feedback
My feeling is that if they are instrumental to the usage of Postbox, maybe QuickFolders should disable them there. I personally keep constantly changing the order of mine with the mouse so fixed shortcuts by position would not be helpful to me. Its just one of those features of the original version (QF 0.6) that I kept for backwards compatibility.
I’m confident
