Inappropriate?sorry. too short a question!. what i meant is can PostBox support winmail.dat file attachment decoding on a mac. I currently use the LetterOpener (formerly OMIC) plugin for mail.app
-
Inappropriate? If view source on an email i see:
--=***.***.***.com-90353-1237313150-0001-2
Content-Type: application/ms-tnef; name="winmail.dat"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

is it possible to decode this thing in Postbox?
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I'm not sure ayman. Can you try quick looking the .dat file to see if the OS can render it?
-
Inappropriate? Thanks Paul. Hmm, I don't think we have the ability to decode that in Postbox. We might need to look into some sort of plugin solution to get that like you did for mail.app.
Thanks for pointing this out! -
Inappropriate?I have a lot of pdf files in my gmail sent items etc and under imap in postbox they just show as winmail.dat files. if I log into gmail they are fine.
-
Inappropriate?Having this problem too — with simple .doc attachments.
IMAP gmail account. -
FYI:
.doc file was 3.1MB
This occurred in both Mac and PC version of 1.0b13 -
Inappropriate?LookOut is a plugin which allows Thunderbird to interface with Microsoft's mail tools by decoding metadata and attachments encapsulated/embedded in a TNEF encoded attachment (aka winmail.dat).

Perhaps the Postbox team could work with the developer
I’m almost always happy.
-
This would be great, if there could be such a solution! -
Inappropriate?BUMP!!!!
-
Inappropriate?BUMP again
-
Inappropriate?+1 I'd like to voice my support for this as well. I receive e-mail from a lot of people using Outlook. And so this rears it's head more than I'd like.
-
Inappropriate? This had been fixed in a previous build, but now in 1.0.2 (and perhaps earlier) it's back again.
This is a MUST FIX.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?we'll ask the author of the add-on to see if he'll support postbox. thanks guys!
-Scott -
Inappropriate?Postbox errored out when I tried to install the LookOut add-on:
"Lookout 1.2.9 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Postbox 1.0.2."
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Looking for this as well.
I just realized after purchasing post box that I dont have this feature.
Bad for me because I paid for Letter Opener in Apple mail ;-(

Inappropriate?Scott:
Any quick fix on this problem yet? I would consider this being a big issue. For me, it essentially decides on whether or not I use Postbox. I ask myself why not use thunderbird since there's a plugin that addresses this issue? Obviously, I think this product is eventually going to be superior to Thunderbird and I'd like to stick around. Please tell me you have some quick magic trick to fix this issue?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Haven't had a winmail.dat problem in a while, but it cropped up again yesterday. Gotta get this one fixed.
-
Inappropriate?Hey Robio:
What previous version were you using that worked? I'm interested in rolling back my installation to make it work.
Thanks -
I hadn't had the problem in 1.0.2. -
Inappropriate? Are you sure you had any mail with winmail.dat file?
-
Whom are you addressing? Most of us here are, of course, sure we had mail with winmail.dat files attached or we wouldn't be posting in this thread. -
Inappropriate?Bumping for an update from Postbox. Still getting winmail.dat — today's example: an image attached instead of inline.
I’m frustrated by the lack of progress
-
Inappropriate?Bump again.
Not sure if this is noted here but I believe it's a result of docs sent via outlook 2007 to non-outlook people. -
Definitely Outlook related, and 2007 seems the likely culprit based on what I know about the people whose attachments have been winmail.dat-ed.
