wrong focus after deleting a message in message list.
When deleting a message in the message list pane the focus goes to the message above the deleted one and not to the message below the deleted one.
I have never seen that before. Is it a bug?
I find it very disturbing because sometimes I click two times on the DEL button on my keyboard and the second messages I deleted is the wrong one.
PS: I have the newest messages in top of the message list.

Inappropriate?Try sorting the mail the other way. does it work correctly then?
I have my mail sorted newest on the bottom and it always moves down to the next new mail if there is more new mail.
I just gave it a go. Sent myself to messages and switched my sort order to newest on top. Select the older of the 2 newest messages and the focus moved UP to the next newest mail. -
Inappropriate?Yes, the focus moves UP.
I had my mail sorted newest on the bottom as well (even in ThunderB) but every time a new message came in, I had to scroll down to the bottom.
When you put your newest at the top you don't have to scroll up :-)
You immediately see your new message.
But the focus has to Move down when you DELETE a message (like in TB). -
Inappropriate?so ... you DON'T want it to go to the next newest message ... you want it to go to the next oldest message?

Inappropriate?remin,
you can control this behavior via a pref.
Preferences / Advanced / Config Editor
mail.delete_matches_sort_order
toggle the value of that pref and restart Postbox.
Lemme know if that works for you!

Thank you Scott :-) -
Inappropriate?I already posted about this but I might not have explained it properly:
When I select a message in the list and I push "del" or click on the delete link, I would like the whole email list to move down one notch (and my selection staying where it was), rather than the selection moving up and the email list staying as it was.
It's a lot more practical when having a long list of emails to delete while still having to review them one by one, without hitting the top of the screen and having to scroll the list down.

List moving down when deleting. -
Inappropriate? That fix doesn't work for my issue. I'm sorting with newest messages at the top, and when I now click delete on a message, the message list moves *up* one nothc. I want it to move down (when newest messages are at the top) while selection doesn't move. Bottom line, with that pref set to false, I would have to start deleting from the top.
-
Inappropriate?Just posting to say I'd still like a fix to my issue with deleting, explained above.
-
Inappropriate?@LeChuck I also have new messages on top. When the preference "mail.delete_matches_sort_order" is set to FALSE and the program is restarted, it should perform correctly -- current message is deleted, focus moves down to next (older) message.
-
Inappropriate?Hi, as I probably explained poorly, this is not a sort order problem. The default setting is fine. The issue is that I would like the *list* of messages to move when I delete a message (unless it's already all the way to the top) instead of the selection to move up or down. Let's take this example: I received 100 messages that I will mostly all deleted. I go and start with the oldest one, so I'm a few pages down the list. I start hitting the delete key. The list of messages is not moving. Instead, my selection moves up to the next message (or don, but I don't want it to go down). When it reaches the top of the page, I have to scroll the window, otherwise my selection will stay at the top and I will not see easily what I am deleting. Instead of all this, I would like my selection to remain where I set it, and only the list of messages to move, until I'm on the last page, and in this case it's logical the the selection finds itself at the top of the page.
What I'm talking about is the behavior that Apple Mail has, and it's very practical for me. I can receive dozens of messages that I will need to delete (automated server notifications) except for a few int he middle that really concern me, and so being able to delete quickly and easily see what I'm going to be deleting on the next keystroke is a lot better. -
Inappropriate?Okay, I understand that your issue does not relate to the OP's. However, I'm not sure what you mean by "I have to scroll the window, otherwise my selection will stay at the top and I will not see easily what I am deleting".
Maybe someone else could help you out with that question. Better yet, maybe you should start a new thread is this seems to be a separate issue?
Good luck! -
Inappropriate?Well, if I have, say 25 messages to be deleted on the first page, and 10 on the second. If I'm on the second page, I select the last (10th) message, I hit "delete" 10 times. My selection is now at the top of the list, and I cannot see the messages that are still to be deleted until I scroll. In Apple Mail, the selection will stay in the middle of the screen, so I can see the 10 or so undeleted messages above.
