Markdown or another simple markup in posterous?
I like that posterous converts urls to links, but bloggers link *words* to urls. Any chance you'll include support for markdown syntax (or some other simple markup) so we can send add formatting even when sending text emails to posterous? The important markups that come to mind are links, bold and italics. That would be a good start!

Inappropriate?I couldn't agree more. I keep waiting for this - right now it just doesn't make a lick of sense to me: we are writing our blog posts as emails, but if we're not working in a web editor then actually putting the things together is terribly frustrating. And Markdown is already designed from the way that people structure their text for writing in the context of emails, so it couldn't be more natural a fit. I keep waiting for this shoe to drop.
I’m stymied
-
Inappropriate?I want to do this soon. We've got a few other features in the queue, but expect it in the coming weeks.

Any progress on markdown@posterous? Seems like a natural fit. -
Any update on this Garry? I'd love to see it soon :) You guys keep putting great updates though so I understand there's a priority for everything. Thanks! -
Inappropriate? That's great -- and I'm looking forward to the other features you've got coming too!!
-
Inappropriate?I'm dying without this feature! It's all that's keeping me from switching full-time.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?please add this soon. posterous is so easy via mail. But going to the we interface just to add lists and nice links is such a bother.
i really think this feature is mandatory. And markdown is so damn nice.
I’m surprised
-
Inappropriate?Markdown support would be most welcome, thanks for looking into this Gary.
-
Inappropriate? For me also would be a big spin!
I like posterous and its simplicity... something like markdown or textile would be great! -
Inappropriate? The "coming weeks" prediction up top was 6 months ago. suck. I was hoping to show up and have it in place already like a lucky, moochy late arrival. Any new ETA on this? As a fellow dev, I'd guess that his can't be a difficult implementation. Is it a question of the load of the additional process?
I’m stimied.

I'm really trying to snuggle in and commit with posterous. There are a couple things like this slowing me down though. -
Inappropriate?+1 for Markdown also.
-
Inappropriate?I use regular html markup and it works fine for me. This includes links, lists, and style formatting.
I’m satisfied
-
+1. I don't personally see the need for a layer of abstraction on top of html. -
Inappropriate?I found that html is working for me, too. This solves my need for markdown. Anyone else needing a markdown or textile should give html or "rich format" in your email client a try.
I’m happy.

I do agree with Dave LaDuke that this is not the best solution, but it will work for me for now, causing a lower dev priority for me on this thread. I would rather see posterous theme customizations open to javascript embed code for further integration flexibility. -
I find that I regularly have to go into submitted posts and edit their HTML. Need Textile in a bad way to make the process tremendously smoother. -
Inappropriate?I get inconsistent results with rich text in my mail client.
And sure, I could write HTML, but then... posterous is supposed to be simple.
Markdown combines simplicity and control. I hope they still consider it as a future addition. -
Inappropriate?Yo, hi guys, any idea when these kind of markup or perhaps Textile as well get's supported via e-mail?
I developed an SMS-to-Posterous app (actually started as an SMS-to-Twitter app), for Philippine based mobile phone users, called @tweetitow (http://tweetitow.com).
I was also able to add support for multi-part concatenated SMS messages, and have added support for Textile markup. It's amazing how easy it is use the markup when you compose posts on your mobile phone.
Here's a sample output:

It would be nice to support an easier markup like Markdown or Textile on e-mail as well. So i can use my phone to send one via the Wifi connection.
One reason why having these markups are better than outright HTML is that, sometimes composing HTML e-mails results into messy HTML code. For example, when you indent a paragraph, sometimes an editor uses a text-padding, instead of using a blockquote -- which is in fact easier to style. :)
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? As a Posterous newbie, I've had my own little internal conversation going on about HTML markup.
As you can see, I've figured out that HTML markup works just fine as long as email is sent as plain text.
Seeing as how comments are not post-editable though, I can still see a case for Markdown or Textile. They are both just quicker to type and less prone to typos that screw up the markup such as a wrongly typed closing tag (I'm quite prone to typing <?foo> instead of </foo>!).
I’m relaxed

There's a lot of weeks have gone by since Garry posted this. Is this still on the queue? -
Inappropriate?+1 for markdown support in emails. I'd love to write my emails with markdown rather than switching to HTML-Mode.
-
Just to say - I emailed Posterous and had a reply back saying that Markdown is still a goal that they're working on. So, Hurrah :) -
Inappropriate?Nice! I'm glad this is still coming up. I was starting to get worried.
-
Inappropriate?Wow, 10 months ago this was "coming soon". I just realized how awesome this really would be. Please come soon...
I’m anxious
