Hey everyone,
Unfortunately we cannot fix this problem due to the way Google Reader works. To make things a bit more intuitive, you can switch to "Opacify" mode by pressing 'X'. This will fade out the stories instead of hiding them, but the keyboard shortcuts will still move through these faded ones. That's the best we can do for now, but if the situation changes, we'll keep you informed.

Sean, Zman, can you guys please try the Greasemonkey script? I've just scrubbed through our code, and there is nothing that should be causing this behavior. I'm guessing it's the Greasemonkey compiler (script to xpi) process that is introducing this behavior.

Inappropriate?Ah, that's a good one. Thanks for the heads up, looking into!
-
Inappropriate?Moving back and forth between items using space / shift + space does not work correctly too.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hmm, we're not overriding any of the keys mentioned so far. Zman, thejo, are you using the XPI or the Greasemonkey scripts?
-
Inappropriate?XPI. I should say the j/k don't work properly instead of not at all. It seems that they don't go to the next filtered post, but instead to the next one in the feed regardless of postrank.
-
Inappropriate? This no longer seems to be an issue. The shortcuts I use are working properly. Will post here if it acts up again. I use the XPI...
-
Inappropriate?which shortcuts?
-
Inappropriate?space/shift-space
I just tried j/k too... they're working as they should. But, I was facing the exact problem you mentioned (j moves to next one in feed instead of next filtered item). Not any more though.
I'm on Windows, Firefox 3.0 -
Inappropriate?I just installed the XPI extension on FF3 and the N/P shortcuts are not working.
I’m going to have to uninstall if those shortcuts don't work.

Inappropriate? The greasemonkey script doesn't work either.
This only happens if you start filtering articles.
If you use the space bar or n, it will scroll back up to the top sometimes (next article might be a filtered article)
In filtered mode, using the arrow works, but make google reader way harder to use.

Hmm, we suspect it's a hidden entries issue. Could you try un-hiding stories (Ctrl X), then try the shortcuts, and let us know if that works or if the issue persists? -
Inappropriate?I also have this problem with both the Firefox extension and Greasemonkey script. It appears it is moving through all stories, even the hidden ones. If I don't hide then j/k move correctly through all items in the list. If you have a lot of items between the filtered results, it appears as if the shortcuts don't work. However, if you press j/k enough you will eventually get to the next filtered item. Any solution yet?

bbmcgee, thanks for the heads up. It appears that the new update by the GR team has brought this bug back. -
same issue here. its too bad since i quite wanted to start using this. -
Same problem here -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the reports, folks. I've logged the issue, and we'll post here and elsewhere once it's fixed so everyone can update the extension.
-
Inappropriate? This appears to be working for me now!
Edit: I spoke too soon, I just had a series of "Great" posts in a row that I was able to navigate through by keyboard, as soon as the "next" post wasn't shown by the filter it stopped working.
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?I just reinstalled the extension yesterday hoping to use it again, and it appears the keystrokes are stil not working right with the PostRank XPI. I am not using the Greasemonkey script. Any updates?
-
Inappropriate? My apologies for the frustrations, folks. We do have this logged, and will let you know as soon as it's working correctly again. (And will keep our fingers crossed that the Google folks don't update Reader too soon...) :)
