How to "claim my blog" that's hosted on WordPress?
I've got a blog that's hosted on WordPress (at http://rapidrollout.wordpress.com/) and I want to "claim my blog." I'm stuck at the step where you say to "choose verification method." The choices are "You can either upload an HTML file with a name we specify, or you can add a meta tag to your site's index file." But as far as I know, I can't do either with a blog that's hosted at wordpress.com. I imagine there's quite a few people with a similar problem.

There's now a third alternative for blog claiming, which should work for hosted blogs and others that don't work with the first two options.
Login to postrank.com, go to the Settings page, then select Claim Your Blogs.
Enter your URL and click Add, which will add the blog to a verification queue.
Choose the "Add an image" option from the Verification Status drop-down. Copy one of the code snippets and add it to a blog post on your blog. Publish that post.
Come back to the Settings page and click Verify. Within a few seconds the verification should complete, and your blog will be confirmed.
If you need any additional assistance, or have trouble completing the alternative verification, please let me know.

Inappropriate?Yep, we're currently working on an alternative claiming method for hosted blogs (and others where the existing verifications won't work). We just need to make sure it's as friendly to less tech-savvy users as possible first.
Will post when that's available. -

I use a http://nalates.wordpress.com/ type blog. None of the 3 verify methods work for verifying the site ownership. I cannot upload a file or set a meta tag, as described above by others.
The third option of WP insert image feature shows the image URL as bad and refuses to insert it. Inserting the HTML code directly shows an image broken image icon on the page and verification fails... How do I verify the blog? -
Hi Natales,
I've updated the process to work more smoothly now. If you go back to the verification page, http://www.postrank.com/settings/claim the new image link given there should work properly now. Thanks for pointing out the bug, and hopefully it works for you this time! -
Inappropriate?Trevor, it worked. When I first tried it, it said verification failed. Then I tried the link in the email I received... when that page opened, it said verified...
Thanks for fixing.
