Postrank Firefox extension 1.0.3 installed but not recognized
I installed the Postrank FF extension 1.0.3, but I can't get my account to recognize the application. I've tried installing and uninstalling the extension several times (restarting FF each time), but I never get a prompt to sign into and authorize my account. When I do login, it doesn't show up under approved applications. The postrank icon in the status bar remains grayed out with "No feed" on all websites. I tried the installation with extension v 1.0, and it didn't work either.
I’m using FF 3.0.5. Am I missing something obvious? Any help is appreciated -- Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hmm, sounds very frustrating. The first thing that comes to mind is that a couple people have mentioned, depending on their browser configuration, that when they installed the extension, the pop-up window where you authorize your account acts a bit "shy" and doesn't necessarily take focus in front of your browser window. If you've not yet tried, immediately after installing the extension and restarting the browser, minimize the main browser window and see if the authorization window is hiding anywhere.
Not sure, too, if aggressive pop-up blocking (e.g. multiple extensions installed) could prevent it from coming up. In any case, I will ask the devs about it. The fact that you had issues with more than one version makes me wonder if there's something about your Firefox setup that doesn't like the extension. We'll get it figured out. :) -
Inappropriate?bluebyrd, just to make sure that we're going through the same motions:
1. install the FF extension
2. open a page with an RSS feed (gizmodo.com)
3. click on the postrank icon (where it says no feed), and you should get an authorization popup in a new screen
- Login into postrank.com, and confirm that you want to authorize the extension.
- Once complete, close the window and refresh gizmodo.com
Is this how you're going about it? And if so, in the authorization popup, does it ask you to log in and then authenticate the extension? Does anything happen when you click to authorize? -
Yes, those were the steps I was going through.
I reinstalled the FF extension and tried Melanie's suggestion above about minimizing the main FF window, but that didn't help. I even turned off the pop-up blocker completely, but no success there either.
When I go to a page with RSS feed (gizmodo.com) and click on the postrank icon (no feed), nothing happens. I never get the authorization pop-up. If I just go to postrank.com and log-in (without the pop-up) I can access my account, but it never asks me to authorize the extension. -
Inappropriate? How about when you login to postrank.com and go to "My Account" and then "Applications" tab. On the bottom, do you see any approved applications? If so, try removing it from there.
-
No, it doesn't show any approved applications. -
Hmm, ok we might have to jump into the guts of Firefox then.. This is a really bug!
Can you please do the following:
- Open a new tab, and in the location bar, type in: "about:config"
- Hit enter and it should bring up a page with a whole bunch of settings
- In the "Filter" box, type in "oauth", you should see two keys in there:
"extensions.aiderss.oauth.secret" and "extensions.aiderss.oauth.token"
Do either of those settings have a value associated with them? -
Inappropriate?I found the Perspectives extension (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~perspectives/f...) interferes with the Postrank extension in this exact way. Disabling it allows me to log in and authorize the application.

this solves the problem

Aha, very interesting. It must be blocking some of the connections. Thanks a lot for the heads up! -
