Enriched Text Formatting in Notes(?)
As a new user on Pownce, I was surprised to find there is no enriched text formatting in notes.
Additionally, through research I discovered Pownce does not accept markup of any kind.
Q1: Is 'enriched text formatting' a foreseeable feature in Pownce?
Q2: If not, why?

Inappropriate? They really should support markdown language or something.

Inappropriate?A1: Enriched text formatting is not something we plan to add in the near future.
A2: Adding a WYSIWYG toolbar is something I don't think we'd consider doing as it's a complex piece of user interface even at it's simplest of Bold, Italic, etc. Even adding a markup language like markdown seems unneccesarily complex for the type of short notes people generally write. We're trying to keep the interface and feature set pretty light weight and keep focused on enabling people to share stuff easily. I'm not sure that advanced text formatting especially serves that goal.
We're certainly open to your rebuttals and opinions on the subject though, so please do explain what you'd like to see, why you'd like to see it, and how you might envision us implementing it. Cheers!

Inappropriate? Not so much fully-functional markup, but I've seen people use things like *asterisks* and _underscores_ to draw attention to specific words. Just some simple regex to replace *something* with italics and _something_ with bold would be easy to do, and small things like that would defiantly help at least a few people. (/\*.*\*/\<em\>\1\<\/em\>/ and /\_.*\_/\<strong\>\1\<\/strong\>/ respectively, would do it in PERL)

Inappropriate?Thank you Daniel, for your very timely and thorough reply.
In truth, I use Bold and Italic markup/formatting to stress specific words or strings of text in all my digital communications, habitually. My first question was motivated by that tendency. Secondly, it seems that the development team at Pownce has been acutely methodological in implementing core functionality while maintaining simplicity. The "less is more" principle truly shines through. I assumed there was a particular reasoning behind the lack of enriched text function, I wanted to learn from that line of reasoning. Actually, I agree that it doesn't enhance the core functionality of the network and adds unnecessary weight to the site and API client.
Unfortunately, I'm unequipped to make any useful suggestions in the implementation department, as you're far more knowledgeable than I am. Of course, whenever I have a substantial suggestion to make, I'll do so promptly and concisely.
I will say that I'm impressed with the unique and highly utilitarian concept behind Pownce. I look forward to using Pownce to it's fullest capacity. Thanks for developing such a wonderful tool, and supporting it diligently.
Wishing you continued success. Cheers :)

Inappropriate? What I don't understand is how to get a simple paragraph break.
Doesn't seem to matter whether I write on the web or in the AIR app (on Mac), and doesn't seem to matter how many blank lines I put in, it all runs together when I post. I see other people have breaks - so what's up???
On the other hand, although a little bit of italic or bold would be nice, I can cope without, because I automatically write as *bold* and so on anyway...
I’m confused

Inappropriate?Maybe Pownce should use TinyMCE or FCKEditor, which are both easy to integrate?
Web apps like Tumblr use it!
I’m confident in Pownce team :)
