I've changed my email notifications to off, but continue to receive them regardless.

I've changed my email notifications to off, but continue to receive them regardless. How can I fix this? I've just changed it to an account that is down right now so that I stop getting them, as it's quite annoying when I'm in the middle of something and a notification that I turned off is all-of-a-sudden being sent to me.

I've checked my profile settings several times over, enabled them, disabled them and still the same result. My username is the same on here as it is there.
