Pownce XMPP integration...
It would be useful for users without install privileges on work machines to use XMPP (Gtalk, Spark/Openfire) to receive updates from their pownce feeds as well as post private messages to friends. For instance,
1) Pownce would have a XMPP server that would federate with other XMPP/Jabber domains.
2)When a message is sent to a Pownce user's Jaber ID (user_1@pownce.com) if it is from
2a) user_1's jabberID named in the user's profile (user_1@work.com), it is posted as a public message.
2b) another user identified by user_1 as a friend, the message goes in as a private message to user_1
2c) Else, sender is notified that they are not on the friend list and suggest that the user send an invite, or provide a link to the user's Pownce profile so they can establish a relationship.
3) Pownce updates would come in as messages from user_1@pownce.com in the Jabber client. Replies directly to the incoming messages would post as new entries in Pownce feed.
.
This would allow people in a restricted environment to use Pownce in an existing application and with the benefit of real-time update notification, which browser windows aren't too good at. Would also be really handy for mobile Jabber users (Octrotalk, etc...) who would like something a little more engaging than the mobile pownce web page.
