What's the difference between Pownce and Twitter?
I get that you can send other stuff, but can't you just send links to all that stuff on Twitter anyway?

One of big differences is that Pownce does the file linking and storage for you. In fact, the idea for the app arose from the frustrating experience of being unable to send relatively large files to friends using AIM or through other channels (e.g., without having to pass around FTP login credentials). Email obviously isn't very great for this, either, since most mail gateways barf on large attachments.

Inappropriate? You can send files, a feature unavailable on Twitter. But isn't that what e-mail is for? Maybe sending files without using e-mail would be a slick solution if EVERYONE used Pownce, but that's not a realistic expectation.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?But... how large can attachments be without a pro account? This seems like it should be a separate question.

Inappropriate?Well, even 10MB is considered "large" by email standards. And yes, there's already a topic about whether or not Pownce is really worth $20/year. ;)
-
Inappropriate? You can upload files up to 100MB in size with a pro account. We're certainly open to raising that limit in the future if we find that people are really pushing it.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Personally it would be rather nice to use to share TV shows...
Thats in the 200-450 range, depending on whether is a half-hour or hour long show.

Inappropriate?I copy paste my answer to this note today: Pownce is better than Twitter because....

At first I thought Pownce and Twitter are similar . Now I know for sure they're different. You can't create discussions like that at Twitter (maybe you can but it will be hard to track the comments). I would say that Pownce is turning to be more and more a place that you can share and recommend good links/ files and have a good group discussions on your posts, than a place to come and tell your friends what are you doing right now. Twitter is a bit shallow for me.. -
Inappropriate? How are uploads done? Std. http request? That'd be no fun.

Inappropriate? As a pretty avid pownce user, I will have to say that in comparing it to other "social networking" tools:the gui, the conversational feel of it, and the overall pace of interaction (somewhere between IM/Texting and E-mail) makes it superior to the other options out there in my book. I spend quite a bit of time online, so having a group of people connected at the same time ranks highly in my book - IM clients make the connectivity level too high and E-mail is too distant...once notification features and other kinks get sorted it will be even better. my 2 cts

Inappropriate? Will pownce have the ability to be added as an extension in firefox similar to the twitter functionality that exists (ie - being able to have a side window open within your browser? vs a standalone desktop app?)

Inappropriate?Shawn, 10mb isn't large for email. Most email systems allow at least 20mb.
But, Pownce doesn't seem to be about sharing one file with one person (yousendit.com can do that), it seems to be about sharing beyond that.
