Just click the little chat bubble icon on the user's profile actions menu - it should say "Contact Author" beside it. That'll let you contact them directly via email and not via public comment (if they allow it - it's optional on folks' profiles), if they so choose. If the option isn't there, they've explicitly disabled it.
