Notification Clones
heyy Nick. i don't know if anyone else has brought this up, but recently the personal notification system on the site has started making duplicates according to how many posts one has in a story. for example, if someone posts a new chapter in Haiku 2, i'll get three notification because i have three chapters posted.
i can't remember this happening before, only in the last week.... just bringing it up as a small nuisance, don't know if it can be properly fixed due to the wonderful technicalities of the coding process.
cheers,
jack.

Hey guys.
I'm pretty sure I've finally fixed this issue. Let me know if you're still seeing clones (after about 1:45am Pacific time on Monday morning)... you should only be getting one notification on the site in addition to a single email notification now (assuming you have emails turned on.)

Yeah... I'm aware of this problem. It's not the simplest thing for me to fix, but I'll try and get it resolved soon. It's only happening with the on-site notifications and not the email ones.

Alrighty, I'll take a look into it. It runs with a slightly different set of rules from the email notifications, so it might just be a matter of applying the same email ruleset to both types of notifications to cut back on the web-based spam.

Inappropriate?Hey Jack,
Are you talking about notifications on the site, or email notifications? They both work slightly differently. -
Inappropriate?sorry, thought i had been clear.
on the site. i wouldn't know about email ones 'cause i've disabled almost all of them, hahah.
I’m still unsure what this face means, but it's growing on me.

Inappropriate? So, there's been something annoying me for a while about the site notifications and it only just occurred to me to bring it up. (This has more to do with useless notifications, rather than clone ones... but it didn't feel significant enough for it's own topic.)
When you get a notification that looks like this example:
"Traxisk posted a follow-up to your chapter in the story Haiku 2."
...the link "follow-up" leads not to Traxisk's piece of writing, but to mine. This is all very well if Traxisk posted on the very next chapter, but half the time the 'Traxisk's' piece is ten branches down the line and hard to find. This could be fixed if the 'follow-up' link led to the newly posted chapter by Traxisk.

I’m hopeful that my comment made sence.

Inappropriate?Mm. I've got the same kind of "clone" issue with site notifications, too. If I've added an author as a favorite, and added a story as a favorite, and added markers and chapters, there will be a notice for every marker, chapter, fave, etc. So, if the little "You have _ notifications" thingy says, say, eleven - it's really just one because a fave author added to a fave story that I've added to repeatedly.
Not sure how you'd fix it, but it's sort of anticlimatic when you see 24 notifications... and it's really 4.
