Why won't messages I send through "Contact Author" go through?

Messages sent through "Contact Author" are not going through. The profile pages load without error, as does the "Contact Author" window. But, when I click "Send", both firefox 3.5.2 and IE 7 report an error on the page, the text box is emptied, and nothing happens.

I’m a little bit frustrated.
