Loses streams after 1/2 hour - Updated
4/27/09: Had been using the original PRT (1.1.1) and the stream dropped after 1/2 hour (to the minute) on both my and my wife's iPods. I've just upgraded to 1.2 (PRX) and it seems to be dropping there, too.
4/28/09 Update: I've determined that the problem occurs only when using my iPod on battery. When plugged in it'll stream for hours. Other than this issue I think it's a terrific app. Many thanks to the developer(s).

Inappropriate?Jack - thank you for this detail - intriguing that it works when plugged in. Sorry you're both having problems, but we appreciate you letting us know. I've passed this along to our engineers and we'll keep you posted.

Inappropriate?Hi Jack - I'm the project lead and I'll work with our developers to see if we can replicate the problem. We didn't encounter this during our testing and if we can't replicate it it's difficult to fix. We'll do our best and thanks for using the Tuner and providing feedback.

Hi Matt. Some more data. Had my iPod plugged into my computer all morning and had perfect streaming from Minn. Public Radio. At 12:17 PM I unplugged it without interrupting the stream. I predicted it would drop at 12:47. Bingo. Here's the error message: "Playback Error. This audio stream is not available at this time. Please try again later. (no Internet connection [-1009])" I see that the icon that shows I'm connected to my wi-fi is also gone. I got out of the app and as I was going to 'settings' to see what that showed, wi-fi started up again on its own.
By the way, I can't tell you how thrilled my wife and I were when we discovered this app (through the NPR website). Thanks for your good work!
Hope this is helpful. Jack -
Matt: Just ran a test with my wife's iPod. Exact same behavior as with mine. Plugged in, no loss of internet connectivity. Unplugged, it dropped the stream at exactly 1/2 hour with same error message as above. Also the wi-fi icon disappeared, as with mine. I quit the PRT app and 5 seconds later the wi-fi icon reappeared on its own and I was able reconnect. Jack -
I know there's a flag you can set in Info.plist named "UIRequiresPersistentWiFi". It seems as if this addresses issues similar to this one. If you don't have that set, perhaps you should try turning it on (if you can reproduce the problem). -
Hi Matt -- I have reproduced the behavior that Jack describes with a twist.
I listened to my Touch streaming our local NPR station for about 28 minutes with the screen blank. Then I unlocked the iPod to watch what happened. Interestingly the stream did not drop. I then blanked the screen again and waited for 30 minutes. And sure enough the stream dropped. When I unlocked the iPod, it indicated that the audio stream was lost and the wireless indicator was gone. -

I have an Ipod Touch. Version 1.2 drops audio stream in less than 1 minute. The screen states playing, then in less than a minute lost stream, restarting. I had better luck with older versions...sometimes the audio stream would last 15 - 30 minutes. Any help would be appericated. Contact me if you need more information.

See previous post. While listening to. WMOT it restarted audio / music at 9:48 pm, 9:50 pm, &
9:51 pm. Switched to Jazz24 restarted audio it happened at 9:53 pm (2 times), 9:54 pm, & 9:55 pm. Switched to WBGO it happened at 9:56 pm and 9:57 - 3 times it did not go pass the intro / pledge request!!!! I have DSL service from Centurytel and live in Jacksonville, AR. When I listen to the above stations on my laptop using wifi I have no problem.

Inappropriate?Just received Playback Error:
"Audio stream bandwidth too great for network. Please try another stream." Ipod touch is pluged into laptop using apple cable. Wondering what network,
could this be my home network?

Inappropriate?I purchased an iTouch last week, loaded the latest version of PRT, and experienced exactly the same "symptoms" as Jack: Excellent transmission for 30 minutes, then the signal drops. The signal streams for hours when I'm connected to my computer, but something seems to be stopping the transmission after 30 minutes when I switch to battery power. BTW, I'm running iTunes on a Fujitsu Lifebook T4220 tablet PC.
-
Inappropriate?Has anyone figured out how to make the streaming continue past 30 min without touching their iPod while it's on battery power? Thanks.
-
Inappropriate?I'm just using that when iPod Touch IS NOT on battery power.
