iPhone app is only for jail-broken iPhones
Please make it clear that the iPhone app is only for jail-broken iPhones. I wasted time signing up only to find out that it won't work on my iPhone.

Inappropriate?True, the stock iphone does not have video recording capabilities (at this time)... Qik please mention this in your FAQ
-
Inappropriate?jailbraking is easy, free and very safe... there are no drawbacks at all...just more apps such as qik.
-
Inappropriate?Yes, please put this in your FAQs. I signed up mostly just to see how you had managed to build an app that does video recording. But, I knew it was already done on jailbroken iPhones.
I’m bummed.
-
Inappropriate? This is important to mention, not just in the FAQ, but only on the phone support page. Listing the iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G as supported phones but requiring a warranty violating action (and very nonstandard installation method) is misleading at best, outright fraud at worst.
I’m defrauded.
-
Ooh, I bet it's outright fraud for Nvidia to let ATI users download Nvidia drivers, because they're listed as "video card drivers" and you think that means any video card. Please... -
Apples to oranges. More like "Third party company provides video card drivers and claims support for a particular model of nVidia video card, but you must first load an unlicensed firmware that violates your warranty." It may "work" for the video card, but unless that company takes over the entire support contract, it's not an expected definition for "supported." -
Inappropriate?Qik actually has official copies of the app for non-jailbroken iPhones, Kenneth of G4 showed off the app on attack of the show saying his was in 'beta' and he was allowed in the beta test.
The problem is it will never come out of beta because Apple won't let video apps in the app store. Seen the 12seconds.tv app? You're forced to take three pictures and then record 12 seconds of audio, since they won't let the iPhone record video. -
I hope that Apple changes their policy on this issue, but I'm happy that Qik is making an effort to properly support the iPhone. It really looks like they have a game changing application! -
Apple never said that video app are not allowed. They just said that THEY won't do it. Nowhere in the dev files it's written that video app are illegal. You can check all the files in the guide given to the devs. -
If video apps were not allowed, why aren't there any, when there are an abundance on Cydia and Installer.app? Do you really think that nobody's gotten around to developing one? What flavor is that Koolaid you're drinking? -
I suspect that AT&T pressures Apple in the backroom to NOT approve video apps because their not ready for significantly more users streaming video. -
Inappropriate? As an apple developer, it is common knowledge that video App's are in fact not permitted in the Apple store. Apple hasn't given a clear indication - but from discussions within the developer community it appears that because the device has very very poor support for video (and it is unreliable) Apple have made the (quite reasonable) decision to not allow it.
It would provide for a support nightmare with people complaining that their video is poor / slow / jerky etc etc
I’m a little frustrated

Correct, it's basically because they don't allow direct access to the camera. Programs that utilize direct camera access (i.e. ones that take video) are not allowed. -
Inappropriate?I agree that it would be helpful to have this information on the Qik supported phones page or FAQ.
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?is this still a problem with the latest high performance improved version of iPhone?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Apple does not allow direct camera access still. If qik wasn't live and worked more like YouTube, it would be possible, but it isn't, and so it is still a problem with Apple.

Just to clarify for anyone too lazy to actually click on this link: there is a version for the iPhone, but it requires you own the iPhone 3GS (it is the only iPhone with video recording capability), and it is unable to stream live due to limitations of camera access, etc etc. If you have any problems with this, your only options are to jailbreak your phone or to complain to Apple. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
There are differences in the Qik application from the App Store and Cydia. The differences is listed in the table below:
