Partially private videos?
Is it possible to get partially private videos? Like when I stream a video it is not visible to anyone except the ones that know the address to my profile. Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hi efish,
There are 2 ways to share videos with designated people:
a) For existing Qik users -
"Group":There is a group tab with three publicity options ( public, private, restricted)
- Private: Only members of the group may view Qikds from this group and group memberships must be approved by the group's creator( or admin)
b) For non Qik users
"Share" There is a share icon under video players
- Send this private Qik to an email address, recipient will get a link to open the private Qik.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Meng Kiat -
Inappropriate?Hello,
I would prefer to be able to create a specific URL that allows all recipients of it to watch all my Qiks in a specific folder. Like e.g. with Picasa. So my family can bookmark the URL in their browsers and can access the folder with no password protection and all other people simply do not know and have it. And Google & Co. will not index the folder because you do not allow them to. ;-)
Is that too much to ask?
Cheers, Jens
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?I agree, I think this site would be much much more successful if users could stream videos privately to their own friends or family. From what I've tried videos will not upload to a group unless they are made public anyways. Part of the cool thing about live streaming video is that it can be personal, its anything but personal though if anyone can watch you stream live video of your kid being born or something. Set up something like facebook where you can have you information completely public or limited to your specific friends.
I’m thinking they could do alot better.

Inappropriate?I agree with Nic.
I just tested the "Private group" sttings and it is anything but private.
Not even restricted. My video appears in my "Private group" only when it is set to public and therefore can be seen by anyone. As soon as I set the video to private it was removed from the group.
I love the idea of "Embed this Group's LIVE Channel:" that contains the code to include your video to your web site. But again. The video only can be seen if it was set to public. Unfortunately that defeates the purpose of "Pricate group"
I checked out www.flixwagon.com and they have an option to share video with only my contacts. And my test videos were not visible to anyone else but to my contacts. Try www.flixwagon.com if you need that funcion.
I think QIK is a great idea. Unfortunately my use of the site will be limited until this "Private group" will be a real private group and I would be able to share live videos with only approved people. -
Inappropriate?I have to totally second that! I just don't see the sense in the whole concept:
- if you make a qik private NO ONE can see it? Why would you do that??
- if you set to default "share to group" only your PUBLIC qiks are shared? What do you need the group for then?
Why not just make it like this:
- all videos that are shared to a group are visible to the group members, private or public
- you can set a status "friends only" and you only share these qiks with people YOU follow
Oh, and while you're at it, why not make the count of a users qik match the qiks that the visitor can actually see? Right now that count is obviously including private qiks, which is a) confusing and b) a privacy issue.
I am so confused by this UI design - especially as I see qik having the potential to be GREAT - on the phone, I just love the outstanding 1-click-you're-done experience! But If I want to share s/th with ONLY a friend, I need to make it priavte and can't make it viewable for him w/o using a PC browser? That's sad.
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate?I know it's been a year. Does this issue still remain? I can't seem to make a video private without blocking EVERYBODY from seeing it. This seems quite silly.
Am I missing something? It seems like with an issue this big, Qik wouldn't ignore it for so long! ...I hope
Please tell me I'm just overlooking something. I don't even see the "Group" option that Meng references.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? It's become even worse! Since the last update, the option to share your videos with your followers/groups is GONE. Now you have to send an e-mail invite to those you wish to be able to see the qik. Most ridiculous: When they are logged in, they can NOT see the qik unless they use the secret link from the e-mail.
This is pathetic. Qik had a great idea and dropped the ball SO BADLY it's hard to not laugh at them (and their VC investors).
I’m frustrated

You log in into your account one day and find that a big part of the functionality is just not there...and you can't find any information on why it was removed, when it will be back and etc. At least QIK could put some information in the blog, or under know issues, or FAQ.
Nothing! no information what's so ever. very disappointing!!!
they had such a good start..... -
Inappropriate?Hi - We are looking at improving the various levels of privacy and the associated visibility of the videos. Please stay tuned....
-
Inappropriate?Well after spending 20mins trying to share some vids with family, I came across thread. It is definitely silly to not have a setting so that people in my private group is able to view any of my vids. Isn't that the whole damn point? As it seems right now, its either PUBLIC, which is a big no-no, to private - where NO ONE can see it. Retarded.
I had SO MUCH damn hope in qik. What a great technology, gone retardedly wrong. I hope you guys fix this.
I’m feel disappointed at Qik
-
Inappropriate?Mmmm.... I'm quite new at this, and I was looking for such a feature as well.
I think I found a workaround which worked for me and just wanted to share it.
What about if you "share" the video sending invitation to your own email?
You'll get a URL you can share with whoever you want to.
This is NOT the same URL you get in the "info" panel which doesn't allow to watch private video, the link you get emailed to you overrides private protection.
So... keep your vid private and send such video share invitation to your own email address and then share it with all ppl you want to allow watching your vid.
Quite simple and effective while waiting for Qik guys working on this.
Just my 2 cents... :-)
I’m satisfied
-
Inappropriate?Oh well... looks like the qik guys did read my previous message... and acted verrryyy quickly to prevent us from using the trick I suggested.
Since today looks like you cannot send a share link to yourself anymore.
Maybe they are trying to collect your friend's email addresses... and that trick didn't like them...
So... there is no point in asking for a better service if they DON'T WANT to give it to us...!
Think I'm going to look for a better service somewhere else...
I’m really disappointed at qik now.
-
Inappropriate?oh... and, by the way... if you really want to keep using qik... just create a bogus email address you send the share link to...! :-P
byebye...!
