Qik on app store for iPhone 3G?
Are you going to become an apple dev. so that you get qik on the app store? If so any idea of a timescale?

Inappropriate?I am also curious, and very anxious. Hell I dont care if it's in the app store, or only for jailbroken phones, just release it!
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate?Currently, we have a limited alpha going on jailbroken iPhone 2g. Evaluating iPhone 3g and will let you all know once we have something working on it.
The company says
this answers the question
-
You have to get it into the app store to be legit. If you do, it will open up a huge world of paying customer$ for you. -
Inappropriate?I know I wouldn't mind paying a quid or two to download the app to cover dev costs and future updates! I guess the app store has made me numb to micro payments.... don't know if that's a good thing or not!
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?get apple to loosen up the SDK or the iphone will always lag behind on geting apps .. thats it .
-
Inappropriate?great to see you have Qik working on iPhone 3g - any chance of it appearing in the App Store, or does the limitations of the preferred SDK mean that Qik wouldnt work?
I’m optimistic
-
Inappropriate? Not totally sure yet. Evaluating possibilities.
-
Inappropriate?to answer jimmy it slows both up ..... one of the big reasons i wont get a iphone but i work on them all the time lol
I’m silly
-
Inappropriate?the apple sdk is VERY restrictive both in what you can do with it and puting it out there on the store
-
What are the specific SDK restrictions Qik is running into?
I've heard rumors that Qik writes files outside of the standard application directories. Can these types of items be fixed or is it due to a limitation in the SDK? -
Inappropriate?Qik actually has official copies of the app for non-jailbroken iPhones, Kenneth of G4 showed off the app on attack of the show saying his was in 'beta' and he was allowed in the beta test.
The problem is it will never come out of beta because Apple won't let video apps in the app store. Seen the 12seconds.tv app? You're forced to take three pictures and then record 12 seconds of audio, since they won't let the iPhone record video. -
Inappropriate?I read in this blog that the application will soon be in the apple store. I really don't understand why apple don't let the iphone camera function as video. Maybe they are developing their own video streaming application.

I’m unsure
-
Yes, there are quite a few blog posts about how qik is trying to submit the app to the app store. Find me one where apple says they'll approve it. -
Inappropriate?I think it would be a shame and apple will loose customers with that. I still think apple will eventually let qik in the apple itunes store
I’m confident
-
And I think Sony will eventually allow SACD playback via Optical Output! http://www.ps3sacd.com/forums/viewtop... (but I wouldn't hold my breath) -
It's now in the iTunes store, but does NOT allow video recording on the iPhone 3G. Come on Apple get real! -
Inappropriate?Of course it doesn't allow video recording on the 3G. To do thr you have to use undocumented features of the iPhone api and apple will not allow that. Plus it could affect sales of the 3GS and there is no chance of apple allowing that either.
Your only hope is to buy a 3GS (it's worth the money). But even then you can only record then upload. Still no live streaming Which is why everyone uses qik in the first place (well that's why I use it anyways)
-
Inappropriate? My point is that most (very basic) phones these days have video recording, so Apple should at least allow it as a paid app in iTunes. Of course, they won't because they want us to upgrade to the 3GS. Nope. I'm not being suckered into that one.
I’m indifferent
-
So jailbreak your phone and use the Cydia version, which does not only video but live streaming video from your iPhone to the web. -
Inappropriate? Thanks Thomas for your reply. I'm still reluctant to jailbreak at this stage as phone very new. I know loads of people will probably email now and say "just do it". But I guess that is a debate for another discussion board :-)
-
It's not a debate, it's basically saying to Steve Jobs "please sir, dictate what I can have on my phone. No Google Voice for me, for it is unholy."
Jailbreaking is safe, as long as you follow the iclarified guide.
