Allow people to borrow books
I don't know if you want to go this far, but it would be nice to allow people to request to borrow books from their contacts. It's great to share a book you love with a friend (and also keep track of who has it). I know my memory sucks, and I can never remember who has what unless I write it down.
You could take this as far as you like (e.g., having a list of allowed borrowers so you don't get inundated with requests, etc.) You can include borrowing stats in the int. gamerscore idea and show the best lenders and biggest mooches.

Inappropriate?This is a great idea and would be a major draw for me to use to the site more.
As for adding allowed borrowers, a simple solution would be to give the option when you choose to follow someone -- a box could pop up with a check box to mark the user as an allowed borrower? Something similar to what Flickr does with marking contacts as friends or family members.
