Sharing progress in Kindle books.
It'd be great if I could post my progress reading books on my Kindle. Perhaps I could post the sentence count I'm? It's reported at the bottom of the screen and my understanding is that its normalized across font sizes and whatnot.

You can now track progress by chapters and Kindle "locations"! Click on a book you'd like to read, press the "Begin reading" button and choose the appropriate format.
If you'd like to lobby for other progress tracking methods please let me know :)

Inappropriate?Actually I think what I'm going to try is tracking progress by chapter. I think it'll be a step in the right direction for all ebook forms since chapters are really the only consistent markers in books. This will be live before we go public in the next few weeks.

Inappropriate? That sounds like it'll work for the majority of the books out there. That said, I just finished reading Heart of Darkness, which has three giant chapters.
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?Maybe a way to choose sentence, chapter, or page ?
I've been changing the page count to match the total # of sentences for reading on Kindle... then I just update it with the current sentence #. It's helps me track my progress as far as what % of the book I've read.. but does not align my notes with anyone elses.

Inappropriate?Didn't know Kindle gave you a sentence count, I should really get a kindle so I'd know these things :)
What other progress indicators can the kindle give you? -
Kindle format books let you jump from chapter to chapter which aligns with your other idea of doing progress by chapter... however i dont think this works for other formats that are converted to kindle format by emailing them to your kindle tho.
You can add bookmarks at a Loction # (which is the sentence count that was mentioned). I'm not sure how sony readers work but as someone who works in UX I can see this becoming a standard quickly because it stays the same no matter which font size you use.
The bottom of the screen indicates which locations you see on the screen (or sentences). So if the screen has 10 sentences on it and the first sentence is location 210 the bottom of the screen reads:
Locations: 210-20
If any of this was confusing just ask. I might not have worded it very well.. I can only read 2 lines of text in this textarea. -
When I use Stanza on the iPhone, I calculate the percentage I've read from the Stanza page count, then convert back to the number of "real" pages to update Readernaut. -
Thats a great idea -

Any chance of adding locations support for quotes? -
Inappropriate?Would it make sense to omit pages for Kindle editions of books and to omit locations from all other editions?
