Hello Rebtel friends,
My name is Alex and I work here at Rebtel. Among other things I'm involved in the work of definining future features and functionality for our iPhone App.
Having that said, I'd like to reach out to all of you, our users, to find out what kind of cool stuff you would like to see in the App going forward?
Let your imagination flow, guys : )
Very best,
Alex

Inappropriate?Be able to pay with Paypal straight from the app.
Add, edit and delete contacts.
Have all the functionality that the website has!
:) -
Thanks for the input Abdul!
As a matter of fact, you can already add, edit and delete your contacts right from your iPhone.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?I know this might be a bit complicated, but friends on Facebook sometimes have their phone # listed. Integrating Facebook so you in some way from Rebtel can get friends numbers from Facebook and calling them through Rebtel....
And of course, Rebtel in general and not just iPhone, SMS/texting feature is very very wanted.
I’m still in love with Rebtel
-
That's a solid suggestions, thanks mwretund.
When Facebook launched Facebook Connect we were all over it much due to what you just mentioned. We were very excited about the possible opportunity of allowing our users to import all their friends with international numbers from Facebook and automatically generate local numbers for them.
Unfortunantely, as it turned out, the API does not allow you access to this information (email and phone numbers) as a third party using Facebook Connect.
Should Facebook take a turn (for the better) on this we will surely have a look at it.
Thanks!

Inappropriate? The website allows you send sms messages to your contacts, I don't see the app giving you the option of doing this through the phone. It would be great if this was available.

We're definitely looking at extending our regular WebSMS feature to the iPhone. Thanks for the suggestion Manuel!
Alex -
I could be using the websms feature all day long when it becomes available. I think this feature should be added right now. -
Inappropriate?Thats great! SMS features from the app would be very useful. Even better would be - being able to retrieve all your sent messages.
Thanks -
Inappropriate? It looks like the app is not as intuitive as it should particularly in relation to importing the contacts from Rebtel online account and syncing it with the iPhone Rebtel app. It should be seamless and transparent to the user. Whenever someone makes changes to either the iPhone app or on the web, those changes should sync to one another automatically without user's intervention.
Also, what about using iPhone app in Wifi directly rather than calling a local number? -
Contact importing/syncing or whatever you wish to call is a bit of a difficult nut to crack. The problem lies in that the address book of your mobile phone is usually considered by most people to be the most valued piece of information on your device. Hence, from the perspective of an app developer, you really want to tamper with it as little as possible to minimize the risk of spoiling it in any way.
Having that said, the contact importing process is a very vital part of the app and it's definitely one that we're looking to improve. It can get a lot better. Good point, S Ribbon.
WiFi capability is also something that makes sense for a future version. To name one, it solves the issue of having to buy a new SIM card when you're out traveling and want to call home with Rebtel.
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Hi Alex -
Any plans for an Android version of the app?
Thanks

Yes please. That would be very useful. -
Inappropriate?Hi!
All is wonderful. It would be desirable to have an opportunity to transmit a part of means from the account(invoice) on the accounts(invoices) of other participants REBTEL To help them to keep to enjoy cheap communication(connection). From 100 % of the participants REBTEL which I have resulted in this communication(connection) 80 % are able know or the possibilities have no to fill up the accounts(invoices). I want to help them in it.
Yours faithfully Aleksandr Boiko http://www.rebtel.com/u/099806125/ -
Inappropriate?+1 for wifi.
Another great feature would be the ability to forward calls TO the iphone using rebtel. For example, I would like to be able to have my skypeout call forwarding (which currently goes to my cell phone) forwarded to a rebtel number that will ring on my cell. I use rebtel for all outgoing calls but I would like to be able to use it for incoming from skype also. Your rates are so much better for Australian cell phone than skype... -
Inappropriate?Another two very useful options would be:
1. Full SIP support, i.e., ability to use Rebtel in an ATA.
2. Desktop software.
I am sure the above two things will increase/extend the reach that you have currently and will allow more and more people to use it the way they want to.

Inappropriate? Please develop an "android" based app, not only the iPhone app. Many of us carry "android" based phones. And while you're at it try a WebOS so Palm users can enjoy Rebtel!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?+ 1 for SIP access number for all the contacts in our phone book. This will greatly reduce spending much valued airtime minutes to make a call. It could be worthwhile to integrate with gizmoproject and leverage off their SIP capabilities and call their number.. 774xxxxxxx.

Inappropriate?a service that works
-
Inappropriate?I was really looking forward to this app but have to admit I am a little disappointed. I use Exchange to sync my contacts. With the Rebtel app, I have to disable sync, import my Rebtel contacts and then re-enable sync, while leaving existing contacts on my iPhone. This results in duplicated contacts. A contact list similar to the way Skype or Fring load them would have been the perfect option. For example, in the Skype app, I can click on the person's name in the app and it then gives me the option to call them via Skype, or the other contact details I have for them, such as their mobile or home number, provided I have added these details on Skype. Surely you could do the same with the Rebtel app?
Also, when I do import contacts from the server, it show them all as mobile numbers on the Rebtel App, even though some are work numbers, home or mobile numbers.
I really enjoy using Rebtel. Its a great service and the best value for long distance calls, so would love to see the iPhone app improved. For the moment though, I think I am going to continue using the mobile web version. -

Inappropriate? Is there anyway you can put the option of making free international call in there. I mean if you want to make a free international call with someone that you know is available for it, you make your call and and push 1 or 2 or 3 to activate the free call, meaning that the other person on the other end will pick up his or her phone and will hear a vocal that will explain what it is and ask the person to call back the number. That way when I call and I want to use that option I'll just stay in the line untill the person calls me back.
-
This would definitely be a killer feature. Although, we would probably look to further automate the entire process of making a Free Call. -
Inappropriate? On the iphone, I just wanna be able to pick a number from my address book and have it dialed. Your app should automatically add the + because no one stores numbers with a plus. second i store some uk numbers with 011, your app should just auto correct for the dialing. the app is not intuitive at all. to call a number, i have to go to contacts, memorize it and redial it for a double dial. I dont want to store my numbers on rebtel network to be able to have quick access. skype doesnt do this so im confused as to why you have to. I'd also like to see the rates in the keypad page. sometime i may dial a home number instead of mobile if i am aware of the rate, you already show where i'm calling, im sure you can show the rate as well.
The app is solid otherwise, but i barely use it because it is such a hassle.
I’m dissappointed
-
Hi there Bilal!
The keypad is not optimal if you look to make one-off double dial calls to contacts on your phone but don't want to save them as Rebtel contacts.
The contacts view and keypad was built on the user scenario assumption of you using the contacts view to add, call and access contacts that you have in your address book whilst you can use the keypad view to make one-off calls to people that are not in your address.
Thanks for your feedback!
Alex -
Inappropriate?what about the issue with having to store the + in numbers. don't you think that's a hassle?
I’m sad
-
Sorry for not addressing that question in my previous response.
It's interesting that you say most people don't store their international numbers in an international format. When were developing the app we actually found that most people do. Simply because that format is prerequisite for you being able to call or text that number.
Having that said, I still see us potentially adding that feature as it would most probably make the user experience more seamless.
Thanks again!
Alex -
Inappropriate?Well it depends on where you're marketing to. Here in the US, we dont need +'s and when we call Europe we have to dial the 011 exit code. You'd find that people like myself store the numbers this way. It took me a while to realize that I had to remove the 011 and add a +. This is why I find it a hassle. Most my contacts already stored with 011 and none have +. You should realize as well that alot of people use skype which i think also based in europe (sorry for the constant comparison), but they make it easy to just pick a contact and dial. it auto adds the + or +1 if needed and figures out whether or not your number has an exit code. To really compete, I think you have to take this into consideration, quite a number of the US appstore reviews share this sentiment.
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate?@Bilal. Actually if you add 00 instead of + both are interchangeable. Just so you know.
-
Inappropriate? We can add a contact in Rebtel using the phone (which is nice) but I couldn't find a way to delete "a" contact from the rebtel account using the phone. The only way I could find was to to it on the computer. Any chance of getting this basic function in the next version?
Thanks -
Hi rej123,
I sincerely apologize for the wait.
You're able to delete Rebtel contacts and not have them show up under the contacts view in the app. You do this by simply deleting the corresponding Rebtel number in your regular iPhone address book.
Although, as you already pointed out, the feature of deleting the contact from both your phone as well as your Rebtel account in the web is missing. Very good point and such an elementary feature should definitely be there.
Thanks!
Alex -
Inappropriate?Integration with the address book (like Skype does, for instance), would be a killer feature for me.
Thanks! -
Hi Zork!
We're currently looking at different approaches in order to improve the address book integration. Skype's approach is definitely up there.
Thanks for contributing!

Inappropriate?Hi again,
Would it be possible to have copy-paste of phone numbers in the app, too? Let's say you get a number by email or sms and want to call it using Rebtel, copy-pasting in the app it would be nice!
Thanks!
Zork.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I need caller ID to work .. jajah supports caller id both ways .. i.e. incoming call from jajah looks like it's coming from the person i am trying to call and the person who i am calling sees my caller ID ..jaxtr supports showing my callerid to the person i am calling but i see the jaxtr number which is ok but not as good as jajah .. rebtel shows some random rebtel number in both cases, which simply sucks
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? How about a symbian version for a Nokia e71 / 72? Despite popular marketing myths, not everyone wants an overratted overpriced i-phone which is what it is outside the usa..
-
thats only your opinion that iPhones are overratted they have just won the best awards on all counts a nd if you cant afford one dont knock them -
Inappropriate?Mike. You too have an opinion and agenda too apple fan boy...
I believe i live in a free world to express what i will.
What are you a communist? What are you gonna do about it?
The facts are it is an overpriced overrated phone full of flashing lights
and multimedia for bored teenagers mostly. (Britney Spears Iphone app says it all!) But it cant multitask with skype and other voip apps running simultaneously so what is the point?
It cant do skype except on wi-fi not on the 3g cell network out of the box..
Not to mention the jailbreak bs! and you pay thru the nose to be f***ed over by apple? Good luck!
The fact that it uses at least double the data in a country without unlimited cell data plans doesn't help either... and of course..
Everything you do on an iphone including the itunes store is tracked and traced by US security agencies?
No thanx!
Think and be informed before verbally mastubating about stuff you don't know anything about!
YOU WANT THE TRUTH, YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!
Your needs and mine are different so i think apple sucks for what i would use a phone for and it is overpriced,
Besides most people don't use an i-phone to make phone calls, they use it to masturbate the touch screen! HAHAHAHA!
If you love your iphone i am not stopping you...
It has its place for multimedia addicted wankers who cant or don't want to make a phone call. I use my phone as a phone. If i want to surf the web there is a pc. If I really need to i can still surf on my phone which is better on VOIP, multitasking and messenging! If i need flashing lights a pc does it better than an iphone!
If you need the best of both worlds, I suggest you look here! A nokia e71 with a program that sends wi-fi from its 3g cellular data connection to an itouch!!!
http://www.e71fanatics.com/2009/11/us...
Isn't that effectively the same thing as a locked iphone without the bs or long overpriced contracts? You don't need an iphone since most iphone users don't talk on it anyway! They are too busy twiddling their thumbs on the screen! Before being hit by traffic as they crossed the road! lol
Next time you make an uninformed emotional comment back it up with knowledge! I have done my homework and maybe at the right price will pick up an itouch one day after i pick up a nokia e72 for under US$400.. I know what i am talking about and have done my homework! Have you???
All I was saying is that the other voip provider i am on had an i-phone app and a symbian app. And i am asking for the same so u can go your merry way and me on mine.......
Again, not everyone wants an Apple iphone fan boy!
Get over it! -
That's some post Cam :)
As I've mentioned before, we are certainly looking at the remaining mobile platforms too. Primarily Blackberry, Symbian and of course Android. Unfortunately we're unable to give you a time estimate on when we have someting tangible to release. Will be sure to let you know when we do.
Thanks -
Inappropriate? The ability to double-dial a contact by choosing the number in the address book. This is important to me because my operator allows me to chose 3 local numbers and call them for free 24/7. So i only use the double-dial and i really need this feature.
Thanks -
Hey Karl,
Thanks for your feedback. If your carrier allows you to call three local numbers for free and you want to make those three numbers Rebtel numbers, you can simply add those three international numbers, get local Rebtel numbers back and let your operator know that those are the local numbers you wish to call for free.
Is that right?
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hi Alexander, When can we expect to see the new "Call to computers" make it to the app?
When can we actually expect the first update for the app?
Thanks -
Hey there Rej,
We will first off be looking at integrating WiFi calling functionality.
The next update of the app will hopefully be submitted to Apple by the end of January.
Thanks buddy! -
That would be just awesome. Wouldn't have to use Skype on WIFI anymore... What's Apple typical time to review and publish an app? -

It really depends. Since VoIP apps aren't as sensitive as they were only a few months ago, we hope it will just be a matter of a few weeks at the most.
We'll keep you guys updated on the progress as we go along.
Thanks!

Inappropriate? Are there any plans of implementing the SkypeOut option with the Iphone App?
Is it a feasible option?
I’m amused
-
Hi there Mike,
If you have a moment, I would be grateful if you could let us know what it is that you don't like about it.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I use my Itorch for phone call on Skype but your app is not availbale to Itorch, Can you make it availble for Itouch installation?
Thanks
