Can you rescue my (unlogged) web browsing on Firefox and Safari? Last reply on May 09, 2008 14:41.
Most of the websites I visit are not logged on RescueTime. A few seem to be listed as "Blank Web Browser" and "Unknown URL," but the recorded time on these sites does not seem long enough to cover total web browsing time.
I don't know if RescueTime is designed to list Safari or Firefox as apps that have been used (as opposed to listing specific websites visited); in any case, neither Safari nor Firefox are listed as apps used.
So, three problems: 1) most web sites visited aren't being logged on Rescue Time and 2) web browsing is largely listed as "blank" or "unknown" and 3) amount of time logged for web browsing seems too short.

Straight up: do Firefox and Safari just not work well for Rescue Time? Last reply on May 09, 2008 12:26.
There seems to be a lot of discussion around various details about this but am I correct in understanding that this basic problem is also occurring for many others:

RescueTime doesn't seem to be able to detect the active tab for a web browser (Safari, Firefox) Last reply on May 08, 2008 13:28.
I could be wrong but noticed this after I uploaded my data a few times.
Basically this means that it doesn't know what I'm actively looking at on the web.
btw I'm on Tiger.

How to check to make sure time estimates are accurate Last reply on May 06, 2008 16:19.
I just installed rescueTime today. Fantastic idea and seems really like a useful app.
I'm a little concerned about how accurate the time reports are...
Here is the situation...
I am running RescueTime on a Macintosh with OS-X 10.4.11
I just watched an episode of BattleStarGalatcica (approx 48 minutes long) on the scifi channel using Safari (Most of my day to day web browsing is with firefox 3.05 Beta). After I finished watching )probbaly 50 minutes total) I updated ... and my most recent stats record only 15 minutes on scifi.com....
Is there something about watching streaming media (eg no keyboard interaction) that would diminish the estimated time recorded for a given site?
Thanks -

How long until RT realizes I'm gone? Last reply on May 03, 2008 15:23.
What sort of time scales does RT use to determine whether the user is active / idle? (i.e. after x minutes, it stops logging data, etc.) And, is this changeable? -

Mac collector locks up machine after full-screen movie viewing Last reply on April 24, 2008 15:36.
After watching a movie I rented on iTunes in full screen, the Mac RescueTime collector locked up my machine. I was able to reproduce this and as a result, I've uninstalled the collector and am discontinuing use of the app.
1) Play movie in full screen.
2) Exit full screen.
3) Mouse over dock. -

Timeout doesn't seem to work on Mac client Last reply on April 17, 2008 16:18.
In my first week with RescueTime, my statistics are clearly corrupt. They include ridiculously large amounts of time spent in two applications I know I did not use actively for very long, but which I likely left in the foreground when leaving my machine inactive for extended periods. Are there any known issues with the timeout/idle feature on the Mac client? Does it work? Does it depend on the system screensaver being activated or something else? -

RescueTime application tag-on-the-fly title bar button Last reply on April 16, 2008 22:58.
I think there should be a title bar button (next to minimize, maximize, close) or right-click menu extension that lets a user tag an application without going through his logs and tagging each application and any multitude of arbitrary websites after the fact (a time consuming and HTTP request-intensive task).

enable me to mark start and end of an activity associated with a tag Last reply on April 16, 2008 21:41.
To decrease noise I use a whitelist. I am pretty sure that "non white list activity" in the dashboard is the result of me browsing random blogs. I don't want to ignore that in the report and I don't want to turn off the whitelist because that would increase the noise.
I want to be able to mark the beginning and end of this activity while I'm doing it. I realize this defeats the entire purpose of RescueTime since it monitors me silently but having a large block of time as "non white list activity" is not useful data to me, the user. -

How to get frontmost X11 app on OS X Last reply on April 16, 2008 21:00.
Different X windows (X11) apps all show up as just as 'X11' in RescueTime. It'd be nice if they were broken out per app.
Here's a way to get the name of the frontmost X11 app:
/usr/X11/bin/xprop -id `/usr/X11/bin/xprop -root |awk '/_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW/ {print $5; exit;}'` WM_CLASS
It'll print something like this:
WM_CLASS(STRING) = "xterm", "XTerm"
or
WM_CLASS(STRING) = "emacs", "Emacs"
Of course, that'll only work if X11 is installed - for lots of users, /usr/X11 might not exist.
Hope this helps! -

Rescuetime tells me I no longer use my Mac. Last reply on April 13, 2008 17:20.
I get this email weekly:
> We hope your last week has been a productive one! Unfortunately, we don't have
> any app & site usage data for you... So you'll never know for sure!
Surprisingly, this *does* tell me something useful about how I spend my time: I don't use my Mac anymore! It's sitting here next to me, but I just use my Ubuntu boxes now. Mac, good. Ubuntu, enough better.
I know you're working on a Linux port, so I'm not really pushing, just commenting. -

Time being logged when computer is sleeping Last reply on April 08, 2008 14:04.
I have a mac, MacOS 10.5, and RescueTime keeps logging the time even when I put the computer to sleep.
Yesterday, I checked the weather and decided to go out, and put the computer to sleep. When I came back, I waked the machine, and RescueTime now shows one hour and a half on weather.yahoo.com.
I had this happen again today for less than one hour.
However, it seems to be working fine when the machine sleeps for more than 4 hours. The time is not being logged in that case. (I've not tried sleeping between 1:30 and 4h, so the limit, if any, should be within)

I'm not working much at all Last reply on April 06, 2008 13:56.
I've been using Rescuetime the last few weeks and it seems like it doesn't log everything I do at my computer. Todat I've been working 3 hours today with Zend Studio (java app), cocoamysql, transmit, firefox, safari & mail. But my rescuetime only shows 39 minutes. If I get into details it shows me -1hrs 17 min. Why is the app stealing time from me :P
