Is it/ could it be possible to get a graph of average efficiency by hour of the day, averaging the data from a week or month? It'd be great to be able to see an overall chart of my best and worst times of day.
My irssi window is being logged as ssh for reasons I can't understand.
Is there a way to tell rescuetime what certain window titles mean, or help it learn?
I don't think my goals are working. I'm trying to make sure I don't spend more than an hour on blogs (which to me means Google Reader) and though it tracked that I spent 12 mins on blogs today - Goals are saying "no time."
I think it would be great if RescueTime could detect which computer is sending the info if it is installed in several PCs, so the same aplication can be tagged differently based on the computer.
For example: I use RescueTime both at work and at home. I have different computers for both places, and similar applications installed. And I want RescueTime to allow me to tag Photoshop (for example) as "Work" if the info comes from my 1st computer and as "Entertainment" if it comes from the 2nd.
If you want people to use this, you need to make sure it's as unobtrusive as possible, and that means DON'T take up 50+% of their CPU. It's rather ridiculous, I can't imagine it needs to do this much... every few seconds poll for the current application and/or website.
Granted my computer is already pretty slow (1.33GHz) but that's all the more reason it shouldn't be a CPU hog.
I'd really like to use RescueTime, but there's NO way I can use it in it's current state.
Hi, my primary browser is Opera and I spend much time there. But this time not counted correctly.
In debug tab often show this error:
Error: The client failed to request "opera|WWW_GetWindowInfo!sURL".
And when rescuetime send data to server show error like this:
Sending file : C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\RescueTime.com\logs\pending\rt_20080410-162000.yml

"Blank web browser" is being logged as a "site" I spend a lot of time on. Problem is, my browsers (windows or tabs) are never "blank". Any idea what this refers to and how to fix it?
I use Firefox 2.0.0.14 on a MacBook Pro running 10.5.2.
I use 2 different PCS and have a complete portable apps suite on my USB drive, ( courtesy http://portableapps.com/ ) so that my programs and settings go with me whereever I go !!!! ..
It would be great to have a portable version of the RescueTime Data Collector .. with everything ( settings, exe , logs ) at a single location..
To distinguish between tasks, I would need to be able to tag at a first path part level in the URLs.
For instance, I would like to tag http://localhost/app1/ and http://localhost/app2/ differently. "Record Partial URLs Only" is not checked, but path don't appear in the List View: am I missing something?
I put my computer on hibernate at the end of the day. It seems RescueTime gets confused sometimes and would record my usage as "Windows Explorer" during hibernation -- even after I close all applications and any open Explorer window. I can't reproduce this problem, but it happens about 50% of the time.
Can I turn the RescueTime logging keyboard shortcut (KS) off completely (not just set it to some other letter of the alphabet)? I hate system-wide KSs that often interfere with the KSs of specific applications? For those scant times when I don't want it to log, I can always go into the interface to turn it off, but so far I have not turned it off once in a month, so I won't miss not having the KS.
I am noticing RescueTime reporting sites which I have never visited at all - that too for long durations. For example sites like plusmo.com, dir.blogflux.com. I repeat I have never ever visited these sites, whereas its reporting durations of 44 min for dir.blogflux.com.
And today surprisingly its not reporting the sites I actually visited, and is reporting this last dir.blogflux.com.
it appears I have much more personal vs business time being logged when I'm doing very little if any personal time and almost all business. Could there be a problem in my setup somewhere?
This only started happening a few days ago (possibly with the latest RescueTime update?), but almost all time spent in Firefox 3 beta 5 is being displayed as "Unknown URL". I've been using the Firefox 3 beta 5 for awhile, and this has only just started to happen. A few websites are showing up, but only a very small percentage. Thanks.
Noticed that user.config in:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\RescueTime.com\RescueTime.exe_Url_iqitukdlg04szbe4dffie0b1txso3v3b\1.0.5.20 contains email_address and password in plain-text.
It doesn't bother me - I'm the sole user of this system but if computer is used by more than one operator this seems like a dubious practice.
im using rescuetime on win2k with mozilla firefox 2.0
last week all was ok, but now, after the last upgrade, there is no label at all on any graph (categories, tags and apps).
additionally, Time Spent and Goals dont show at all.
Efficiency and Productivity are ok.
i can see graphs (histograms), but they have no meaning for me now, as they are not labeled.
was this a bogus upgrade?
can i revert to previous version?
PS. ive checked in IE 6.0 and got a slightly different behaviour:
Categories, Tags and Apps: labels not shown
Time Spent: ok
Goals: not shown
Efficiency and Productivity: ok
See my previous post "Need better way to delete erroneous tags and favorite tags"
Can you allow users to download a spreadsheet/csv file with three columns.
App/website (or however you are recording it at finest level of detail)
Tag (or tags)
Classification (only to make it easier for me to chose my own tags)
Note: if its simpler a separate record for each tag when an app is multiply tagged is fine.
Allow me to manipulate this off-line NOT to change App/website or classification but just to retag the apps using (say) Excel to drag tag's to multiple apps etc.
Probably a separate column where 1 means add and 2 means delete the tagging of an app
I have my apps tagged as:
AppA:tagA, tagB - AppB:tagC - appC-tagA
eg you send me:
appA tagA classA
appA tagB classA
appB tagC classA
appC tagA classB
I send back:
appA tagA classA X
appA tagK classA
appB tagC classA X
appC tagL classB
result after you update is:
AppA:tagB,tagK - AppB:<no> - appC-tagA,tagL
ie. don't touch app-tag combos I don't send back and make requested additions/deletions.
You mentioned in a separate post that XML could "somehow" be acquired by users. If that's a lot easier for you then I could probably generate a syntactically correct XML file to cover above but IMO using CSV would be a lot easier for most
I spent a couple of hours the first time I used RescueTime tagging applications and web-sites. After looking at my stats for the first week I realized that the "scheme" I was using "all wrong"
I was hoping to find a "clear all tags" button so I could start over.
I'm now going through the painfully slow process of trying to remove all tags. Uggh - getting server errors etc.(502 proxy error)! Also the web page "appears" to allow stacking multiple requests but I think in reality its only doing the first one I click [Remove It] on and throwing away anything else. I tried to short-cut the process by starting multiple tabs but its just gives me the above error.
Finally I've got rid of all my existing tags ... how do I clear out my favorite tags ... will these just "age out" when I add new tags?
See next post for a suggestion ...
Edit add ... just discovered that when I [Select All] before removing a tag it only affects the current page .... sigh ... 5 more pages to go :-(
