I spend gobs and gobs of time in Outlook. Some of this is idle email chatter. Some of it is good hard work.
It doesn't inform me at all to see in a histogram that I spend gobs and gobs of time in Outlook....Which is all I can get RescueTime to show me.
I know that Outlook can be opened in multiple windows at the same time, e.g., one window for appointments, one window for email. Is there any way to use that functionality with RescueTime, to at least show that I was working in "Outlook Window 1" or "OutlookWindow 2"?
Presuming not, what do you recommend as a workaround solution? I can't be the only hominid for whom this inability to even minimally break down my Outlook time expenditures (just "play" versus "work", by using separate windows for play and work)
is a real dealbreaker.
(Nope, using a web-based email system for either play or work is not a solution for me. Because it's only in Outlook that I have sufficient functionality, access to past emails, easy attachments and batch processing, etc. Switching to web-based email in order to log play vs. work time would definitely not be worth it, time-wise.)
Wish I could see if I'm spending more or less time overall in front of the screen given the specified date range. E.g. avg 10.3 hours/day and when I change the range: avg 8.9 hours/day or whatever.
Is there a way to manually log time spent on off-computer tasks, like working out or running errands? That functionality would be very useful to me. Thanks in advance!
Is there a way to tag everything at a certain domain as the same thing, so that (for example) user1.site.com and user2.site.com can be recognized as the same site without having to go through and tag each user separately? I would like to be able to tag *.site.com as all the same thing.
(This question was asked a couple months ago with no reply)
I noticed that in the log files there is an attribute for both app_name (i.e. Photoshop) as well as window_title (i.e. TopSecretClient_HomePageComp_01.psd)
Is there any way to see reports in the dashboard on the window title attribute? Right now it seems to only expose the app_name.
I may work on several different client projects all within Photoshop throughout the day. If I'm smart about my file naming I could then track my time across projects VERY efficiently using RescueTime!
It would be similar to how you break up Firefox usage to show website data.
This sort of thing would be very important to us and would help me sell the idea to the CEO to pay for the Pro version! ;) ca-ching! $$
Why am I not receiving text message alerts when I exceed my time wasting goal? I entered this address into my alerts page: [my phone number]@messaging.sprintpcs.com. I believe it's the correct address because I sent an email to it and received a text message. Sending an alert to my email is kind of counterproductive, since email is one of my time wasting devices!
I know there must be about three people who use SR Iron instead of Google's Chrome but the granularity you typically get from using FF3 (for example) isn't there if you use Iron.
I'm using firefox 3.0.1 and it will not let me delete individual url's from my history. Shift + delete is not working. Could it be something in my settings? My b-friend deleted the entire history and I just want to show him that he can just delete individual ones...if ya know what I mean. Thanks.
I frequently go to new sites on a particular domain name, for example xxxxx.domain.com then yyyyyy.domain.com. I want them to always be tagged the same - I don't want to have to login and tag each new hostname every day.
Some of the applications I am using are mis/poorly categorized. For example, Thunderbird and Adium are "Comm (other)" instead of Comm (email) and Comm (instant messenger), respectively. I can't seem to find a way to change this on the application page" http://www.rescuetime.com/details/202711
I tried RescueTime a while ago and it did not collect data from the Firefox 3 beta at the time, rendering it useless to me, because that is where most of my time disappears.
Since Firefox 3 has been released for a while now I assumed that the issue with RescueTime would likely have been fixed by now, so I decided to try again with the latest version. But it seems like the same problem is still there. Firefox only appears with window titles but no URLs in the logs and Firefox is not shown in the Dashboard at all.
This is on Mac OSX 10.5.4.
Do you have any idea as to when you might get around to fixing this problem? In the meantime, couldn't you at least report Firefox as an application instead of filtering it out?
Is it possible to assign a tag based on the extension for the file I'm currently editing in a text editor?
I use a text editor (PSPad, specifically) for many types of work. Sometimes I use it to write personal documents (TXT files). Sometimes I code stuff (AHK files). Sometimes I edit webpages (HTML/PHP files).
These are all different activities done using the same program. I'd like to have some way to tag my activities within PSPad based on the current file extension (which appears in the window caption, by the way).
I played a two hour game of Age of Empires yesterday, and it registered as 10 minutes. When I watch movies, RescueTime records maybe 5 minutes for each hour I watch.
I noticed this error earlier today in the Preferences Debug tab:
"16/09/2008 13:55:41
Error 3400: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\RescueTime.com\logs\pending\rt_20080916-135447.yml' because it is being used by another process.
Skipping upload of log file, will try again later."
Just wondering what else would be using that file.
