This looks the the perfect app. It has everything I need, except that it posts the data to the web. I NEED an app like this, but I value my privacy enough not to send the info off into cyber-space. Any chance of creating a version of RescueTime that logs and processes all the data locally? I would be happy to PAY for an app like that.
Also, often I use my computer (laptop) offline, and I still want to be able to log my usage.
I have read the privacy policy, but blind trust is not enough. I really dont need my data going out into cyber space at all.
I don't remember giving permission to use my data, yet I just saw a Tech Crunch article that shows aggregated data from RescueTime users. Can someone explain?
Just got some amazing feedback from an amazing beta tester.
Her screensaver was logging as an app (it's called Slickr). Seems like it'd be wise to have user controls (maybe on the manage tags screen) for a user to select an app to be "ignored forever". This would also probably be handy for pr0n. It wouldn't ignore it on the data collector side, but would ignore it for reporting purposes.
Note that we also want a feature to allow users to nuke any (or all) of their data.
I work with an administrative web application that has sometimes has sensitive data in its URLs. For example, it might have an email address of a customer in a GET string. Regardless of whatever data scrubbing is happening on the server-side, I can't allow this information to be reported to RescueTime.
So, a feature request that's hopefully both simple and generally useful:
Please put an option in the client that looks at the data it logs and scrubs out everything but the domain from URLs.
Your privacy page is a bit scant. Will you pledge to NOT-sell all harvested information to a scary data conglomerate? Or is that your nefarious long term plan?
