I frequently go to new sites on a particular domain name, for example xxxxx.domain.com then yyyyyy.domain.com. I want them to always be tagged the same - I don't want to have to login and tag each new hostname every day.
Is it possible to assign a tag based on the extension for the file I'm currently editing in a text editor?
I use a text editor (PSPad, specifically) for many types of work. Sometimes I use it to write personal documents (TXT files). Sometimes I code stuff (AHK files). Sometimes I edit webpages (HTML/PHP files).
These are all different activities done using the same program. I'd like to have some way to tag my activities within PSPad based on the current file extension (which appears in the window caption, by the way).
one thing that currently bugs me a little is that I'd like to categorize all my RT items, but this isn't possible if I do not make it as the first thing, as the tagged items go away out of the "Untagged" tab. And the "Uncategorized" tab is worthless for an individual user, because it also shows items I / one has already tagged!!
Although I can understand that in terms of all "Uncategorized" items, I'd more like to see a "My uncategorized" (regardless if ones proposal was accepted yet) and maybe an optional "All uncategorized" tab. The "My uncategorized" could btw. include all items categorized not from oneself but from others. But this should be optional (e.g. via a checkbox at the top of the tab content).
This way you would make it possible to more consistently categorize all yet (from oneself) uncategorized items plus the consistent categorizing of all items categorized only by others, but not (yet) by oneself! Because by "presenting" the (by oneself) "uncategorized" items to the person, these will get categorized much more often and this way, the categorization will get better and better - or at least corrected!
Don't know if you get my point, but I'd be happy about it. :)
I would like to add an item to the API & Developer Tools list: a widget for tagging recent Untagged Apps & Sites. It would just display the most recent untagged site/app, and allow you to tag or skip.
I will probably give it a shot soon, but I would like to list it there in case anyone else has more time on their hands.
Any way that Rescue Time can track finer detailed information would be a big help. Two examples from my own experience:
- I use cuteftp to do a lot of html and css editing on web sites live on the server. I do this for clients web sites (work) and my own (personal). I'd also love to be able to track how much time I spent on each client's site in cuteftp. Woul dit be possible to assign tags to the time spent in cuteftp dependent on the server that I was connected to? I imagine this would be soemwhat similar to the way you can tag whatever web site you visit via a browser.
- Using other apps, for example Photoshop or Dreamweaver, I'd love to be able to track how much time I am spending on each client's work. Would it be possible for RescueTime to see the directory structure of the files that I have open in the current app and apply tags to the time spent in that app dependent on the directory they are in. If it could be nested, that would be even better. Say for example I have a "work" directory with all my clients jobs in. If I am editing a photoshop layout for client xyz which is in the directory /work/xyz/layout.psd I would love to be able to apply the tags "work" and "xyz" to the time spent on these files.
Perhaps I will spend less time tagging and more time looking at your categories.
Are productivity figures still based exclusively on tags?
I would like to use your categories (to save tagging) and let me assign my own productivity to them. Some people think email is productive while others feel it is a time waster.
In the list view i see the -2 to +2 scale for productivity but the changes don't seem to stick.
Also can I suggest categories? I use Yahoo desktop search to manage my mail so I have iit tagged as email since that is 99% of its use. others may call it an office app if they also use it regularly to search for documents. . . thinking out loud here . . . perhaps I cannot impose a global category nor a productivity setting . . . but in my profile I can override some of the default category settings. It still reduces the amount of tagging I need to do.
When I try to change my tags on windows explorer (which I mislabled and wanted to change) but when I do the changes wouldn't take place and I receive the message:
undefined local variable or method `owner_col' for #
I'm new here but I don't think this should be happening. :)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
