distiguish between folders and files, not just apps!
hi. i wish there was a way to distinguish between different files used on the same app. i work on few projects simultaniasly. each of them has word files, photoshop files, pdf files etc. and each of them is organized in a folder and sub folders. so. if there was a way to see which files i used during the day, or - even better - which folders were the locations of the files i used - this would give me a real idea of how much time i spent on each project. currently the only use of rescuetime for me in my specific workflow is to know how much time i spent working, and how much time - playing (internet etc.)

Inappropriate? This is a great idea-- and it's on our to-do list. Our entire founding team have been consultants-- so we totally see the value of this.

Inappropriate?i second that - it will be a very useful feature (would be nice to 'designate' files/folders to track, instead of everything being tracked).

Inappropriate?Amen!
And let me add email accounts for this. I use Thunderbird and have several different accounts in there. Personal, my own business, and a few client-related email addresses.
And now that I think about it, I'd love to track down to the email folder level. Mailing lists are something I need to participate in sometimes, but it's easy to get carried away.

Inappropriate? Is there an ETA for this feature? This would be a deal breaker for me as a long term user.

Inappropriate?Howdy - I'm loving this! Just started today and wanted to add a suggestion - it would be great to be able to tag instances of sites. For example, I visit Google analytics for my own stuff and that of clients - if I could tag today's visit to a client, then I have a run down of everything I did. Kind of like lazy time tracking. LOL Thanks!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I agree. This was the first issue that became apparent as soon as I installed the software. The dashboard showed all the apps I'd been using but there's no way of telling what project I'm working on unless I can tag folders rather than apps. Like the first poster, I use my directory structure to group files associated with a particular project so would only need to tag folders and not individual files.

Inappropriate?Tracking folders is a must, implement or loose me. :)
-
Inappropriate?I'd like to phrase it more positively than Morten: implement this and I want to give you money.
I’m looking forward to this feature
-
Positive is good. Plus, Morten misspelled "lose". :-P This is officially our most requested feature. We're doing some improvements on the groups/biz offering right now and doing some infrastructure improvements (to keep our servers from exploding due to growth)... After that, files/folders it is! -
Inappropriate?I've just signed up for RescueTime and this is the first thing I'm looking for - how to distinguish what projects - by File Folder, tag, Filename --something! A lot of us spend most of our time in MS Office Apps (imagine that!) and tracking by installed application is of little value to seeing how time is really being used.
As this thread has been going on for nearly a year, I was hoping to see an ETA in the near future. (it's 8/11/08 today) Are we getting close?
