Does RescueTime stop logging when my Windows screen is Locked?
If I lock my computer with Windows-L (Or Ctrl-Alt-Del, Enter), does RescueTime notice this and stop tracking immediately, or does it still wait the two minutes for the idle time out?

Jason, this issue has been resolved with RescueTime 0.9.7. RescueTime should immediately stop logging when the Windows session is locked.

Inappropriate? At the moment, I believe RescueTime will wait the two minutes to time out, just as if you had stepped away from the computer. I will double check that and perhaps we can trigger an immediate idle when the screen is locked.

Inappropriate?I would also like to find out if it is possible to customize this "2 minute" period.
-
Inappropriate?I have this on the list to add as a customization for users. I'm curious, if we were to make it a customized range, what range would you be most interested in?
1 to 5 minutes? Lower? Higher?
Thanks! -
Inappropriate? This didn't seem to work for me. I locked my PC for 20 minutes, and it logged that time as 'MSOutlook'. This is going to kill the results if it happened overnight for example.

Inappropriate?Hmm, that's certainly not what is supposed to do. I will look into it to see if there is an issue with locking. Thanks for letting us know
-
Inappropriate?Argh - I can confirm that this is also occurring on our Vista and XP test systems. I've added it as a priority issue and hopefully we can find a fix for it fast.

Inappropriate?Good to hear that you're looking for a fix!
With regard to question about the customized range, my personal habit is to lock the screen as soon as I step away from my desk, generally indicating either lunch, a meeting, or answering nature's call. So, hopefully, detecting the locked terminal can be an "instant" thing, rather than a wait. If not, then 2-5 minutes of inactivity should be "close enough."

Inappropriate? With regards to locking, I think I've found a way to immediately idle out RescueTime during a screen lock, so we might be able to have the instant idle during a screen lock, and leave the 2 minute idle for normal activity.

Inappropriate? If anyone on this thread could send me an email at: team AT rescuetime.com
I've got an alpha build I'd like to get a couple of people to test to see if it resolves the logging while locked issue.
Thanks!
I’m pretty sure I got it
-
Inappropriate?I agree that it should stop logging instantly, but a workaround to having the current app get logged as active could be to press Win-M first to minimize all windows.

Inappropriate?1 to 5 sounds good
-
Inappropriate?very good. looking forward to it
-
Inappropriate?Has this issue been resolved? I often walk away from my PC (using WIN+L) to lock my OS while I'm away.
I haven't seen this yet - but I'd like to confirm.
I’m more comfortable to actually know this is fixed.
-
Inappropriate?Suggestion: Before pressing WIN+L, press WIN+M to minimize all windows. Then when you unlock the OS, press SHIFT+WIN+M to undo the "Minimize All".

Inappropriate? Thanks for the suggestion but I don't want to do anything more than I have to. I'm a bit lazy, but at least I'm really efficient.
I noticed a confirmation from Joe below... but I figured I'd reply to a helpful suggestion.
I’m glad it's fixed.

Inappropriate?Seems that it tracks time when Windows is locked. I use version 2.0.0.572, Windows XP SP3.

The most recent version of RescueTime introduced a bug that does have an issue with screen locking. We have been able to reproduce the problem on our test system and are looking into a fix asap.
I'll let you know when we have a fix.
Thank you for letting us know! -
I just pushed out an update that should resolve this for Windows users. Your RescueTime should automatically update to Version 2.0.0.576 in the next 10 minutes or so.
Thanks! -
Thanks, Joe, for a fast fix!
