Error: The server committed a protocol violation. - Can't bypass the proxy
I know that all of my proxy setting are correct, and my proxy allows uploads etc... RescueTime keeps coming back with:
Unable to connect to RescueTime, please check connections info
and:
Error: The server committed a protocol violation.

Inappropriate? Can I have you try to manually connect to the RescueTime API by using the following URL in your browser:
http://api.rescuetime.com/api/handshake
This should return back a page with the words "login failure!" - which will tell me that your system is able to talk to the RescueTime.com API.
Do you get the same "protocol violation" error when using the Verify on the RescueTime preferences or is it a different message there?
If you know which proxy server/software you are using that would be helpful in trying to track down this issue as well.
Thank you -
Inappropriate?Yup - login failure as expected on that page. I get the same error when i try the verify button as well. As for the proxy server, I believe it is based upon the Squid proxy system..

Inappropriate?AJPOD, could I get you to send me the email you are using for RescueTime to team@rescuetime.com ? I'd like to search our incoming logs to see if I can determine what is going on.
Also, double check your username and password in the Preferences, it sounds like RescueTime is talking to the API when you hit the verify button, but if it returns a "login failure" it is not authenticating you, which might be adding to the to the protocol violation error.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?hi - I sent you my email being used to your email - for some reason I've noticed that rescueTime can occasionally send stuff out to your servers, but most of the time it cannot - therefore my logs on RescueTime are seemingly up-to-date now, but cannot get further updated - it seems to be quite glitchy, and i still find that error appearing in the REscueTime window. Thanks,
AJPOD

Inappropriate?I've been monitoring the incoming logs and I certainly see the handshake attempts (Login verifications and the first step to the log uploads), but I'm only rarely seeing the log uploads.
Are you manually hitting the Verify button much? I see a bunch from this morning (about 20?) which seems a bit strange to me. It could also be that it is trying to process 20+ log files and those are causing the multiple validation hits.
I'll keep watching to see if I can pinpoint what is going on.
