Mac client keep opening MineField
Being a web developer and all I keep a number of Firefox installations, together with one of MineField (the alpha of FF3). Because I need them to play nicely with each other I enabled initial ProfileSelection on browser startup.
Most of the time I work in FF2, but for some reason, RescueTime starts my MineField every few minutes, where it stops on ProfileSelection screen.
If I select a profile and MineField running it works, yet it is very annoying.

Inappropriate?I will download and install MineField on one of our test systems to see if I can determine why RescueTime is having a problem with it. I'll let you know what I find out.
-
Inappropriate?I have been able to duplicate the issue with MineField. MineField shares an application file id with Firefox - both are identified with "org.mozilla.firefox". To prevent RescueTime from being so dependent on the name of an application, we often refer to the applications by their file id. This is the case when we try to ascertain the active URL from Firefox.
When RescueTime requests the application with a file id of "org.mozilla.firefox", Minefield is the what is returned, therefor RescueTime tries to access the current URL from Minefield regardless of whether it is running or not.
I am investigating a fix for this, but it may not make it into our next release, which I'm hoping to have out tonight or tomorrow. I'll let you know more when I have something for you to test.
I’m bummed it wasn't an easy fix

Inappropriate?Subquestion is, with minefield installed, does this mean my Firefox activity is not logged properly?
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately, with MineField installed along with Firefox, RescueTime is not able to get the URL information from Firefox because it keeps trying to get that information from MineField.
I've been searching for a solution and/or a workaround, but I don't have an answer yet. -
Inappropriate?Ok, good to know. This doesn't affect me actually since I use Firefox for just one devel site, and most of the intersting stuff happens in Safari, so it's just a bit annoying.
The current workaround I figure is to put MineField on one of the unused Spaces.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Wait, RescueTime is supposed to work with Minefield? It doesn't log websites and I use Minefield...

Inappropriate? At this time RescueTime will not resolve URL's for Minefield. This is on our list of browsers to look at.
Thanks

Inappropriate? Please get support for Minefield.app ASAP. I'd imagine it's just a name-recognition issue, so it should be an easy fix (and I want my URL-recognition back in RescueTime!). Your current audience is mainly alpha-geeks right now, so I'd bet there are a lot running one of the FF3 nightlies.
I’m concerned

Inappropriate?Quick question .. is this fixed yet so I can try using you again?
-
Inappropriate?Jure, unfortunately RescueTime still does not support multiple installations of a specific web browser.
I have experimented with a number of ways around this, but each solution presented a different undesirable side-effect.
I continue to revisit this issue each time I work on the OS X version of the data collector.
We are working on a version "2" of the RescueTime data collectors which is a complete rewrite from the ground up that will give us a lot more flexibility, but that is at least 2 months out from being ready for testing. We are trying to bring on more resources in the next couple of months so we can work on the huge list of "to-dos".
I appreciate your patience and hope you'll keep checking back! -
Inappropriate? While I know this is not optimal solution, at this point i'd be also willing to install a Firefox extension to help with tracking.
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?Jure,
Could you send me an email at team@rescuetime.com - I'm working on some changes that might do what you need it to, and I'd love to have you help me test them.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Keith (or anyone else), I am working on a version of RescueTime that supports multiple installations of Firefox, including Minefield.
I'd love getting some assistance in testing, so if you are interested in an early look, send me an email at team@rescuetime.com and I'll get you hooked up.
Thanks!
